HvySeezFcstr Posted September 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Looking at one of HAL's ships and it lists a Lanai cabin and a Vista suite. What is the difference between the two cabins?

Krazy Kruizers Posted September 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2017 The Lanai cabins have sliding class doors that open directly onto the promenade deck. There are 2 deck chairs with the words "reserved" on them for your use -- right in front of your cabin. You do need to keep your curtains closed whenever you have the lights on as people can see into your cabin. Lanai cabins are smaller than Vista cabins. Vista cabins are higher up and you have your own balcony -- much more private. JMO -- I would not book a lanai cabin.
crystalspin Posted September 6, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2017 Lanai cabins are retro-fitted from former ocean-view cabins on the deck of the deck that has the promenade 'boardwalk'... the Lower Promenade on the R-class ships (Volendam, Rotterdam). The bed(s) were moved to a balcony-cabin type placement to make room for the patio glass door. Vista suites are not suites in the proper term of the word -- no suites-only perks, no concierge. They are balcony rooms called Verandah (sic) staterooms on other HAL ships. At least some of the lanai cabins (those on the Volendam at least) also got upgraded bathrooms with the retrofit -- double-wide glass walk-in showers where the tub had been. And the Lanais each have two deck chairs reserved for them outside their promenade door. I would love to sail in a lanai -- in fact we had one booked for a transAtlantic last spring, but had to cancel for family health reasons.

leaveitallbehind Posted September 8, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2017 $$$$$$ From the descriptions it would seem that it is far more than that. Privacy, size, balcony, suite benefits, etc. All that IMO would be worth $.
