This will be my second ever cruise.

We are booked on the Celebrity Reflection 12/8/17.

I am a little nervous about itinerary changes/cancellations.

I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced changes and cancellations.

Thanx

Why would you be worried about itinerary changes? If you booked a Celebrity excursion and the ship does not go to the island as scheduled you will get a full refund. If you booked a private excursion, most companies will refund in full, or not charge, if your ship does not dock or tender to the port.

Yes, we have experienced changes on a number of our cruises with no issues.

At least with a December sailing, you "should" be outside of hurricane season. Any changes that happen will probably be due to island damage and you should know before cruising and can adapt. We've had diversions for several reasons:

  1. Due to a storm, we'll miss a port and change the itinerary. Go with the flow.
  2. Due to propulsion problems, the entire cruise is returning to the embarkation port. You're welcome to use the ship as a hotel until disembarkation day but in any case, your entire cruise will be refunded and you'll get a future cruise credit. (Fortunately, the embarkation port was San Juan, a fun place with lots to do.)
  3. Because another ship damaged the pier, you won't be making your next stop. We're refunding your port charges for that port and for a period of time that day, drinks are free.
  4. Because a storm damaged the pier, we're replacing that port with another really boring stop - we turn it into a sea day when a lot of other people leave the ship.

If you'd taken a land vacation to St. Maarten week before last, you would have faced some serious hardships. On a cruise, most of the time, you just adapt to some changes.
