recyclelady Posted September 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2017 We will be taking a one day cruise at the end of September from Seattle to Vancouver. Since it is part of a larger trip for us, we will each have one large suitcase and some kind of smaller duffle. Do you still check your baggage in for this VERY short cruise? If not, is it a zoo with everyone bringing their baggage on themselves?

Colo Cruiser Posted September 17, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2017 They will check luggage on the one day too. We used to check our luggage even on short cruises........ Now we tend to carry on our luggage in Seattle regardless of the length of the cruise. Since you have large ones then checking is best.

xlxo Posted September 18, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2017 To clarify.... do they allow large pieces of luggage that won't fit a carry-on scanner to be not checked?

DrivesLikeMario Posted September 18, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2017 Your luggage has to be able to fit through the scanner. We checked our bags because we had big luggage pieces since our 1 nighter was just the first part of a longer cruise. If people don't check their big bags, it really slows down the line at the security scanners. They struggle to get the big bags lifted up on the belt, then struggle to get them back down again. Rare DandDM Posted September 18, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2017 It is unlikely that there will be porters around to get your large bags, but if you ask around, usually you can find someone to take them. We were in the same situation- overnighter than longer cruise. As first couldn't find anyone to take our bags, but when waiting in the scanner line, a port employee approached us and offered to take our bag. Rare DandDM Posted September 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 18, 2017 Oh - per your second question: yes, boarding will be a zoo! My advice is to show up early and be patient. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
peety3 Posted September 23, 2017 #10 Share Posted September 23, 2017 Boarding will be a zoo, as the percentage of first-time cruisers will be high. The percentage of el-cheapo travelers will be high. The percentage of snobby travelers will be high.
Rare DandDM Posted September 24, 2017 #11 Share Posted September 24, 2017 Just boarded on the emerald overnighter. Very quick and efficient. Other cruisers have been nice. No luggage check at all that we could see. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare DandDM Posted September 25, 2017 #13 Share Posted September 25, 2017 So no porters to collect luggage or help at all? None... we heard someone tell a guest that they couldn't check a bag- but we didn't have anything 'check worthy'. Saw some big bags being carried aboard. As mentioned before, we've had an offer to check our bag in line before. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
