Mexican visa

Hello:

My wife and I are American born citizens, but we also live part time in Mexico and hold Mexican Permanent visas. We have cruised many times, but were recently told by neighbors in Mexico that they lost their Permanent Mexican visas when the cruise line applied for a Mexican Tourist visa while processing their cruise information. Apparently Mexico will revoke your Permanent visa upon receiving a new application for a Tourist visa from a cruise line. Has anyone experienced this problem or know how to absolutely make certain the cruise line doesn't routinely apply for a Tourist visa? Obtaining a Permanent Mexican visa is a lengthy and expensive process.

Never had to have a visa for Mexico. Not sure why the cruise line would have anything to do with it.

Although we are not Americans, we are New Zealanders, we have never had to have a visa for Mexico when on a cruise.

Should you ask this question at the Mexican Consulate and see what they say? Seems to me that the cruise lines provide information on all passengers for Mexican Tourist Permits. There is a fee for each passenger that you most likely pay as part of the port charges & taxes. This is maybe what could cause the problem. The Mexican Consulate hopefully should know what to do.

Most countries, including Mexico, require a visa. You get the Tourist visa as part of your application, whether you know it or not. That's the problem. Thanks "sknight", but I was advised that it's not a Consulate issue, they are just following Mexican law. The most recent visa succeeds the previous one. They offered no further advice beyond contacting Princess.

I will make sure to emphasize the issue at Princess and hope the clerk is not on "auto pilot".

After talking with a person at Princess, who didn't have an answer, and being referred to "Visa Central", a third party "expert", who also didn't know, I was referred back to PrincessI. I now have an answer, I think. A more knowledgeable sounding person at Princess advised that through a special arraignment with the Mexican government ($$?) American passport holders are not assigned tourist visas when visiting Mexico. Be aware that this only applies to cruise ship passengers on vacation, no business trips.
