we like it hot Posted September 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2017 We are booked on the September 17, 2018 transpacific cruise on Radiance of the Seas from Honolulu to Sydney. Once in Australia it was our intention to continue cruising around New Zealand. Unfortunately the various cruise lines charter their ships to private parties in early October. There doesn’t appear to be any ship for us to take until late in the month. It is not feasible for us to wait in Sydney until a ship is available. We are interested in hearing what others have done. A land based tour of New Zealand is an option. Joe Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Ocean Dancer Posted September 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Check my signature, We managed to string 3 cruises together at a different time frame.:D Land tours were so expensive, and this worked for us.
Rare xpcdoojk Posted September 27, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Fly to NZ rent a car, other than it is on the wrong side, it is all good. You will have to fly to see both islands, but should not be a problem. They might even have car ferries. Hotels in NZ are no more expensive than in the states. Have fun. Rare mr walker Posted September 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Not sure of your exact arrival date into Sydney on Radiance, but would be likely first week of Oct. It would mean switching from RC to Princess as there is a 13N Sydney-Auckland on Majestic Princess departing Sydney 10-Oct that may work. It would then allow option to fly home from Auckland. GUT2407 Posted September 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Your problem in Oct isn't so much charters as that most ships are just arriving. As Mr W says maybe Majestic or as others say fly over and hire a car (which is probably a better option anyway).

JC There are definitely car ferries between the South and North Islands. From memory, they go every couple of hours and were quite comfortable. Esilef Posted September 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2017 New Zealand is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world. Cruising around is a great way to get a taste of what it had to offer. The other option is the hire a car. There is so much to see and do. There is also campervan hire which is very popular. The roads are not to busy and the people very friendly.
