Car service from airport tip

Hi. We are taking car service from the airport to our hotel. Using Rome Shuttle Limo. We will pay the driver in the car with a credit card. What is the appropriate tip amount?l Do I tip the driver in cash or on the credit card? The ride is $50. Thank you

If you look around the board, tipping is a VERY hot topic, and has been beaten into the dust several times. Tipping in Italy is not a complicated thing...they tip very little. I would say maybe 5 euros, tops.

The Italian culture is not a tipping one and there will not be a way to put a tip on the credit card, as there is in the States. If you want to tip (there is no need to) it will have to be in cash (Euros).

The important thing about tipping in Europe is that it's not important ;)

 

If you don't tip, no-one will think ill of you. So tip or not as you choose, based on the level of service - but certainly at lower levels in the US.

Yes, €5 is an easy figure, a little on the high side but it's the lowest-denomination note.

 

Airport shuttle drivers are probably used to receiving tips in other currencies, particularly USD.

I used to drive coaches, including cruise transfers, and simply added USD tips to my USD pot - and I suspect that your limo driver will do the same.

So if you're not planning to get euros before you travel don't feel the need to do so just to cover tips.

As mentioned it is fine not to tip or just to give a small tip.

 

I would not overthink it and decide towards the end of the drive based on what your overall experience is.
