bfoxey1949 Posted October 4, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2017 We are going to be tendered in at Kona and I was wondering if my mother who uses a walker would be able to go ashore? How hard is it to get on a tender?
CruiserBruce Posted October 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Depends on the seas and the facilities. The crew will be extremely helpful, and do everything possible to get her ashore.
PCWalton1 Posted October 4, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Bruce makes a good point about the seas. But under normal sea conditions I have seen numerous people using walkers making the trip without any issues.
Zeno Posted October 4, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 4, 2017 As Bruce said - it depends on conditions. I use a cane and a walker and I am actually capable of getting on and off a tender - I rely on the crew to assist me and I use common sense (if conditions look really bad I don't attempt it.) The crew will assist your mother on and off and make sure that she gets a convenient seat.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2017 I agree with all that has been said. Under normal conditions someone could get on and off the tender with the walker. There are some conditions where it can still be done and the crew will help but there will be risk and I wouldn't advise doing it. We have been on tenders that even without a walker or cane it is challenging getting on and off the tender. Keith
