MMoore1851 Posted October 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2017 So hopefully we will be getting on Carnival Dream in New Orleans on Sunday (go away Nate) and I'm thinking about organizing and storage. Three of us (two adults and one child) in a Grand Suite. I think I have enough hanging space, but I'm thinking I need organization. Is this too much? A drying octopus from IKEA, two hanging organizers and a hamper?
Andee Posted October 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2017 We've never taken or needed any of these. Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app
Sailor_Sally Posted October 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2017 That is serious overkill .
SadieN Posted October 6, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2017 Picture didn’t load :( Use the provided paper bag as a hamper or a mesh sweater bag for laundry. Can’t see needing the extra shelves. Double and triple up on hangars. The Octopus might be a good idea if you can find a thinner one. The one from Ikea is huge. Where you going to hang it? I’d be afraid the weight would break the clothesline. Cannot hang it from the balcony. We survived a triple in a Miracle OV with only three extra hooks for our Alaska jackets. geocruiser Posted October 6, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2017 If you have room in your suit cases and the extra weight is not putting you over any limit, I say why not, take the stuff. If it will make your "stuff" easier to put away and find when need, go for it.
orchestrapal Posted October 6, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 6, 2017 Are you permanently moving in or taking a short cruise?? As a neat freak who leaves nothing out in a suite on a ship or hotel room I have never foun the need for traveling closet organizers.:D
awhfy Posted October 6, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2017 I love having my things organized but I don’t take any of those things & we don’t cruise for less than 14 days Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare Scrapnana Posted October 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 7, 2017 Unless you are taking enough clothes so you can wear everything just once, I don't think you need those things for a seven night cruise. I hope Nate co-operates and you have a wonderful cruise.
gandalfcat Posted October 7, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 7, 2017 I take a collapsible mesh hamper for dirty clothes for longer cruises, but nothing else. It fits under the desk easily Sent from my iPad using Forums
robthens Posted October 7, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 7, 2017 (edited) Collapsible hamper is all I see you need. Edited October 7, 2017 by robthens spelling
OCruisers Posted October 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 8, 2017 You can stay organized without taking all of that extra stuff! You'll probably find them "more in your way" that helpful. ;) Enjoy your cruise! :)
gandalfcat Posted October 8, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2017 If you're worried about drawer space, try packing cubes. They really help maximize space in your luggage and then fit perfectly in storage spaces onboard. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Nebr.cruiser Posted October 8, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 8, 2017 We take a folding hamper like that one. To me the rest is just not neccesary, especially in a suite, which will have more storage. I always ask for more hangers though.
dolls123 Posted October 12, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 12, 2017 I always pack the pop up hamper and 10 shelf organizer. It keeps my shoes, hats and purses all in one place.
Barb Nahoumi Posted October 14, 2017 #15 Share Posted October 14, 2017 We bring a plastic trash bag to serve as a laundry bag, and take advantage of Norwegian's bargain bag laundry day, to get our wash done. We try to limit the amount of shoes, to 3 per person, one or two sunhats, and 1 purse and 1 evening bag for me. We tend to do 10-14 day cruises. I don't see any point in any of these items: - You can hang drying items on a hanger in the shower, or on a chair on your balcony. - You'll have plenty of shelves in your bathroom and desk/dresser area without hauling along an organizer. - Easier than a hamper: Put an open suitcase in the bottom of your closet and toss in dirty items. When the suitcase is full, zip it up ... not you're partially packed for home.

I also pack all shoes in plastic bags too. I don't want the soles of the shoes touching anything.
awhfy Posted November 5, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 5, 2017 I line my suitcases with clean trash bags & make sure one is on top of the clothes. If you’ve ever had your suitcase left out in the rain you’ll do this too! On return home all the dirty clothes go into the trash bags. Now we carry ours on and off the ship. But, it is a great way to keep clothing nice and dry.

Sent from my iPad using Forums I also do that too & everything else in plastic bags. Cause on one cruise coming home...someone had a bottle of booze in their check in baggage and it broke. My bag had to be under it cause it was soaked with booze. Thank goodness we were heading home and didn't need the clothes. Now I keep everything in some sort of plastic bags or dry cleaner bags in my luggage!! Once was enough for that happening!!!
