taxmantoo Posted October 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2017 Have read a few posts regarding the new Alamo shuttle process between the port, Eller location and Airport location. It seems awkward for what we plan. We want to rent a car when disembarking the ship for one day and drop it off at the Airport the next morning. The only way I can see that would work is to take a taxi from the port to the Airport at disembarkation, rent the car there, and return it there the next day? Any other rental company we should look at that would make it easier? Anyone have any other ideas on how to do this?
zdcatc12 Posted October 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2017 Have they changed this recently? Alamo, Enterprise and National used to have a shuttle to and from the airport and the port.
Gabruska Posted October 22, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2017 I was told there is a free shuttle from the airport location to the port ? Is that not the truth? Are you talking about from port? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Clarea Posted October 23, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2017 I was told there is a free shuttle from the airport location to the port ? Is that not the truth? Are you talking about from port? I would confirm that shuttle by calling the local airport location directly.
Rare geoherb Posted October 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2017 When we returned our Enterprise rental car to FLL in February, we were told that there was no longer a free shuttle to the port.
Windsorontario Posted October 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2017 I have Alamo before and after my cruise. They are dropping us off and picking us up at the port. They will have a van waiting for you as long as you let them know it is needed.
Gabruska Posted October 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2017 I called today alamo after i made reservation. But I think I have a different situation than OP I am getting rental car at Fort Lauderdale Airport spending a night returning a car at Miami airport and I was told there is a free shuttle from Miami Airport to Port of Miami. It may be different in Fort Lauderdale. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Clarea Posted October 23, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 23, 2017 If you decide to consider rental car companies other than Alamo, here are some offices close to the port with shuttles to the crusie terminals: Hertz from Crown Plaza Hotel Avis from Pier 66 Budget on 17th in shopping center next to Renaissance Hotel Sixt further up 17th. Thrifty/Dollar just out western port exit.
taxmantoo Posted October 23, 2017 Author #9 Share Posted October 23, 2017 Thanks all for the help. I have written to Alamo about taking a shuttle off the ship to their Port Everglades location to pick up the car but return it the next day at the Airport. Will keep you posted. zdcatc12 Posted October 24, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2017 Sorry, I thought this had to do with PortMiami and MIA, I am not familiar with Port Everglades and FLL.
taxmantoo Posted October 24, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted October 24, 2017 Alamo has replied to my query and you can indeed take their shuttle when getting off the ship to their Port Everglades location, pick up a car, and return it the next day to the Airport without any additional charge.
