Giant chess?

Most, if not all, have it. It’s sometimes hidden away a bit though.

Look for it on the same deck as table tennis (Ping-Pong) shuffle board the golf driving range (net).

Maybe on the opposite side of the ship - may have checker board pieces set up instead of chess.

Look along the wall for the board pieces.

And of course when all else fails admit your search skills need some macho help - ASK at Guest Services !

Another thing to do while at Guest Services ask for the table top version (also maybe available in the ships library).

Bring along your laptop computer - preload and play anywhere on board.

Epic has chess. Deal breaker for me, I never book a cruise that doesn't have oversized chess.

I’m hoping this is a joke right? Surely you are not going to book a vacation just because a ship doesn’t have giant chess?

Do you remember where it was on the Epic? My kids love it.

From memory, so this may be wrong.

Pool deck, starboard side. Head towards the aft, I think you go past where one of the slides finishes and then the climbing wall is towards the right. At this point the chess should be in front of you.

So it’s safe to assume all of the listed ships you’ve been on have them? I promised him I’d make sure there was one for his first cruise so I have to get it right!

So tell me when the Chess game beats you - are you removed from the ship ?

I can see the little pawn pieces struggling to have you walk the gangplank

when you are mated - but with the Queen must be some smooth move.

Been Rooked (Castled) from the board ?

With the Bishop diagonally cornered.

The Knight leaping over heads to remove yours.

And those pesky pawns sneaky NCL promotions on the eighth rank.

I think I like the games of chance in the Casino better !

This is kind of funny - my son and I were in the middle of a game when a family with 2 younger kids came up. The kids walked right into our game and began playing with the pieces, moving them around, climbing on them, etc. while the parents stood and watched. I think they believed it was a kids play area or something and not an actual game. We were amused, and we let them play and then just left our game. However, turns out that is the only time we've ever found the chess board open. We've never had a chance to play again on any ship because it's always busy when we find it.
