jordanaire Posted November 8, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2017 I just did a fake booking on our cruise and found our cabin rate dropped quite a bit. I called Carnival and now we have $160 OBC! I guess it really does pay to keep checking prior to sailing. Sent from my LG-LS993 using Forums mobile app

beshears Posted November 8, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2017 I'm glad that worked for you. I use a TA, and I KNOW they will not notify me, unless I check it out for myself, so I generally let things alone. I have a feeling you booked "directly" through Carnival, and that would make a difference. I would like to do that as well, but I don't feel comfortable, when my TA is just a few miles from where I live, IF I have a problem.
pikeman56 Posted November 8, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 8, 2017 I just checked my rate and it looks like it's gone down too. I just left a message for my PVP to call me back. :-) Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I can get a little bit back as well.

If they have, just call your TA and they can apply for the price drop for you. I work with a TA and I know that I am not her only client and she can't check all cruises everyday for a price adjustment. I check, e mail her if any price drop and then she takes care of it, easy peasy!
originalgeek Posted November 8, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 8, 2017 unless I'm really doing it wrong it looks like my partial transit in April has gone up 600 bucks a person since I booked it last year lol.
shellster1 Posted November 8, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 8, 2017 My sailing is a bit cheaper now, too. I'm wondering, does one have to book a certain type of rate to be able to get the difference back in an OBC? If so, how can I tell which rate I have? I don't remember! Thanks! If you have paid in full then you get OBC, if not you just pay less. Carnival will talk to you ONLY if you booked directly with them (or through one of their PVP). If you booked with a TA you will need to call them. I do believe that you can get price drop adjustments no matter what you booked but it does matter how close to sailing date you can get price drops, such as Early Saver you can get adjustments until 3 days before sailing. winddawn Posted November 9, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 9, 2017 Congratulations on your price drop! My cruise is showing $150 more per person than what I paid, but I'm not unhappy because I booked a great special rate.

no1racefan1 Posted November 9, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 9, 2017 Thanks! Mine went down! I've been checking about once a week and never have gone down. However, I just realized that DH's VIFP # was showing a better offer than my VIFP #. I never thought to check both but I will from now on! Cruise price went down $5 pp and we gained $50 OBC. However, now it shows that the taxes and port fees are higher than when we originally booked, so the $5 pp is a wash. Anybody had this happen before? I guess it's not a huge deal since we still gained $50, but I didn't realize the taxes and port fees would/could change.

13cheermom Posted November 9, 2017 #18 Share Posted November 9, 2017 Thanks for the heads-up! Actually try to check each week and we too have got several reductions ($10/pp) over the last few months also. But the big score was actually seeing that a cabin we love to book (L-shaped balcony) had become available, so we grabbed it. You just never know when someone might be cancelling or changing their minds. Hope to see some more drops over the next year! :D
evandbob Posted November 9, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 9, 2017 I've had 4 or 5 fare drops since I booked a spa balcony the Horizon. I used the on line price protection form, and usually got a reply in less than 2 hours. Prior to paying in full, our fare was just reduced, and after it was paid off we got OBC. However, when I noticed that the Horizon May 28 sailing now has premeir casino fares and perks, I was denied. At first the casino desk told me spa balconies weren't included in their offer, but I told them they were on the Sunshine and other ships. Then the casino desk told me it is a ship by ship decision which cabin types are included in their offer. I called the Diamond desk to see if they could switch me, but after a good 20 minutes on the phone with them, nada. Now I see a few balconies left on Deck 6 and was wondering if using the 2 category upgrade will allow us to keep the spa balcony and get the casino perks? Anyone have any experience with this? I'm really intent on keeping the spa balcony- it'll be a first for us - and we'll be on the ship for 4 sea days as well as 2 of the ports (San Juan and Amber Cove), only leaving the ship for a few hours on Grand Turk. pfleer Posted November 9, 2017 #20 Share Posted November 9, 2017 If your category is sold out, no price drops right? I've been trying to use the Carnival Fare Viewer for the past few days, but keep getting an error message. I can't do a fake booking because the category is sold out. I've been trying to use the Carnival Fare Viewer for the past few days, but keep getting an error message. I can't do a fake booking because the category is sold out. Just log onto Carnival website and do a "fake" booking as if you aren't already booked. Just look for a cabin in the same category that you are currently booked in and check the price against what you paid. That's where I found that our cabin rate had dropped $160. I have never gotten an accurate rate using Fare Viewer. Just an approximate rate. Good luck!

One small caveat......you can get price drops, but if the fare/sale etc has changed - i.e., no more OBC offered with the current rate, port fee changes etc. - then you can lose OBC perk or have the fees adjusted which affects the bottom line adjustment! CruisinJerseyMom Posted November 10, 2017 #23 Share Posted November 10, 2017 We were booked in a Family Harbor Interior on the Horizon for June 13. The price on those rooms actually went up but balcony prices dropped so we got an upgrade to a cove balcony for $10 total!
vegas or cruise Posted November 10, 2017 #24 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Looks like the Fare viewer is still not working. I tried to do a fake booking and our cruise looks like it went up a bit. I was hoping to get a bit of OBC.
Hamoodm09 Posted November 10, 2017 #25 Share Posted November 10, 2017 The only way you can get the price adjusted is if your package purchased has price protection. It is usually in the "Early Saver" package. Not every offer has price protection. Something to keep in mind on future sailings. Make sure to get a package with price protection. One time I had $50 dollars OBC and carnival refused to give it to me because it was not on sign and sail on board. I ended up getting it after the cruise and several phone calls to carnival. One tip, make sure you get a confirmation email specifically showing how much OBC you're supposed to get.
