MikeNJ1109 Posted November 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Our cruise itinerary was changed (dropping SJU and picking up NAS) due to the recent Hurricanes, and we're going to be doing the Blue Lagoon excursion. The last few times we've stopped in Nassau, we've just stayed on the ship ... we know the Bahamas have their own currency, but how common is the US$ as method of payment? Also, do merchants discount for using the B$ or charge a premium for using the US$? Just curious ... Michael
Rare BillOh Posted November 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2017 I've only used them via credit card. Never paid cash. They do pick up people locally, if you don't get an answer, find their website and contact them there.
BNBR Posted November 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2017 USD is accepted in the Bahamas. You'll be fine.
mcrcruiser Posted November 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2017 We have found while traveling all over the world best to pay with a credit card (visa or master card is accepted all over the world ) ;but ,check with your credit cards companies if your credit cards are those that there is NO foreign currency exchange charges ;which can be as high as 3% added to a bill When the US dollar is strong against a foreign currency musing a credit card saves a lot of money :D Good luck
pen9uin Posted November 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Was just in Blue Lagoon last week. They accept both US currency and credit cards with no issues. Conversion rate is 1:1. Credit card does charge a foreign transaction fee.
