Jimmycruiser Posted November 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2017 Would like to spend a couple of days in Barcelona before boarding the ship and a couple of days in Venice after departing the ship. What about transfers from Airport to hotel then hotel to ship in Barcelona and the reverse in Venice? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Riocca Posted November 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2017 We have booked the Palazzo Veneziano ( http://www.palazzoveneziano.com/ ) pre cruise next year and it’s only 100 yards from the San Basilio Cruise Terminal. We had an opportunity to visit he hotel when we were in Venice on Quest earlier this year, the staff were extremely helpful giving us a guided tour of the hotel. The building used to be the offices of an insurance company but fully refurbished into a hotel which opened early 2017, so it’s very modern but with a traditional Venetian style featuring lots of black marble. As it’s a short walk from the cruise terminal a ship to hotel transfer wouldn’t be necessary, the hotel offers airport transfers however in the past we have used Airport Taxi Transfers (https://airportstaxitransfers.com/) very successfully. syam Posted November 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2017 In Barcelona, the Catelonia chain is well represented by some lovely hotels in various locations. We loved the Catelonia Passeig de Gracia on the Grand Via, right between the two major tourist areas, so easy to walk to almost everything. Newly renovated but with all the classic charm. Have fun! Azamarajunkie Posted November 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2017 We stayed in the Hotel Gaudi, just off Las Ramblas and an easy 15 minute walk to the cruise terminal. It is directly opposite the Gaudi Museum and we had an excellent room and balcony overlooking the very decorate rooftop. It is also very handy for both the underground system for travelling around Barcelona and many good restaurants.

A balcony room with a view of the Guell Palace rooftop is a treat. And the rooftop terrace is a great spot for a sangria or beer with wide views over the city. Enjoy lovely Barcelona! Sanatee Posted November 21, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Stayed at the Boscolo Venezia pre-cruise in 2016. It's a boutique hotel in an old mansion/estate in Venice's Canaregio neighborhood, away from the crowds of San Marco! Has a beautiful large garden area, unusual for Venice. It's included in Marriott's access to Autograph Collections. Close to vaporetto stops and canal-side local cafes. Also has it's own water shuttle to San Marco. We really enjoyed the hotel and the neighborhood.
Catchum Posted November 22, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 22, 2017 For Barcelona we use, Sallés Hotels Ciutat del Prat, it is very convenient if you want an over night stop before your cruise as they offer a package of pick up from the airport, bed, breakfast and a shuttle to the cruise terminal. It is an airport rather than city center hotel but the city center is quite accessible by Metro. However if you want to get the most out of your time in Barcelona you may to want to be more central. As we have spent lots of time in Barcelona it suits us very well.
cruiservirginia Posted November 23, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 23, 2017 Several years ago, we spent one night at the Londra Palace Hotel in Venice prior to embarking a cruise. The hotel was wonderful, a short walk to St. Mark's Square, and next to the water taxi dock.
sabbo55 Posted November 23, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 23, 2017 We stayed at H1898 right on La Rambla...we loved it.
cruiservirginia Posted November 23, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 23, 2017 Since we'll be in Barcelona for several nights pre-cruise, we wanted room to spread-out. We booked the Citadines Las Ramblas. The largest apartment is a one-bedroom, but, since there are only 16 of them, book early if you would like one. A friend who lives in Barcelona said this hotel is in a great location.
LuAnn Posted November 26, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 26, 2017 Another vote for Hotel 1898...we have stayed there 2 times and now is my go to place in BCN...and they take really good care of you there!!! Sent from my iPad using Forums
LuAnn Posted November 26, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 26, 2017 Re transport from BCN airport to city...we just take a taxi...many drivers won’t speak English so just have the address of your hotel available for him. jollyjoyce Posted November 26, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 26, 2017 In Venice......We stayed at Savoia and Jolanda Hotel in May. 100 metres from St Marks right on the Lagoon. Vaporetta station to the ship and everywhere else in Venice just outside. Fabulous hotel....but book a junior suite overlooking the Lagoon....expensive but WOW. Best advise, take REALLY comfortable walking shoes !!! Book skip the line tickets in advance for St. Marks Basilica and Doges Palace.....the queues are LONG otherwise ! kek123 Posted November 27, 2017 #15 Share Posted November 27, 2017 This past April I stayed at the Condes de Barcelona for a night pre-cruise and it was very very nice. Great rooftop bar/restaurant. Very close to the Sagrada Familia, Ramblas and higher end shopping and boutiques. Great service and rooms were gorgeous and quite large.
ClaudiaB Posted November 29, 2017 #16 Share Posted November 29, 2017 We stayed in the Room Mate Pau in Barcelona. Very close to Las Ramblas and buses, taxi. Breakfast buffet included on a rooftop garden area. Perfect room. Staff very nice. Next door is a grocery store/drugstore/deli/cafe store which was great for incidentals and an afternoon snack. tv24 Posted December 2, 2017 #18 Share Posted December 2, 2017 Tonight we are residing in the Up Suites BCN in the Eixample district of Barcelona. Very nice. Full one bedroom apartment with a working kitchen and washer/dryer, all for less than $100 for the night. Can walk to dozens of excellent restaurants. Cab ride to the cruise ship tomorrow will be about 20 Euros. We would come here again.
acwmom Posted December 4, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 4, 2017 Would like to spend a couple of days in Barcelona before boarding the ship and a couple of days in Venice after departing the ship. What about transfers from Airport to hotel then hotel to ship in Barcelona and the reverse in Venice? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We highly recommend Locanda Orseolo in Venice. It's a small, family owned hotel very near St. Mark's Square. Excellent, included breakfast, overlooking a canal. The employees (family) are very helpful and gracious hosts. We will be returning there next August, for two nights, before our Dalmatian Discovery Cruise. We haven't been to Barcelona, yet, but have the DO Placa Reial booked for 2 nights at the completion of our Provence River cruise this coming March.
