Transportation from Orlando to Miami Port

Help! My family is flying into Orlando on a Sunday and will rent a car and pick me up at a local hotel where I will be on business. We need to drive from Orlando to Miami on Sunday night for a cruise that leaves Monday. Seems like a waste of money to rent a car for the whole week, only to park it for the week. Is there another option to get from Orlando to Miami? I would then need to get back to Orlando on Friday morning for an evening flight.

Sounds like a very convoluted travel plan, when your family could have just flown (return) from Miami. And you could have booked a multicity ticket flying into Orlando and out of Miami.

But given your current plan, the simplest solution seems to be Clarea's.. Rent a car to drive to Miami, dropping it off at the rental office closest to the port. After the cruise, get another one day rental with a drop off in Orlando.

You can also try Megabus, it's between $25 and $38 depending upon time of day each way, has amenities such as free WiFi and power outlets and tales 4 hours. Family goes to Miami and you go one way (or round trip if you can't change your return flight)

Thanks everyone. Yes, flying into Miami of course would have made more sense. Thing is, round trip tickets were already purchased in and out of Orlando for everyone and we planned to stay the week in Orlando. Then decided a cruise sounded way funner, and the only one we found that worked with our dates was out of Miami! So now...just figuring most economical way to get us all down there and back! I did price the one way car rental, and it was $210 each way. Guess I will look into the 5 day rate and parking at the port and see what the cost difference is. Thanks for the tip on the Megabus...never heard of that!

I'm curious what kind of car costs $210. a day. that sounds more like a week rate. The major car rental companies do one day rentals with no drop off charge within the Florida market.
