Mango Tango Posted December 4, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2017 Does anyone know why the Liberty is still at the dock in Galveston? It should have left hours ago.
awestover89 Posted December 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2017 Weather report shows a dense fog advisory; Galveston is infamous for delays due to fog. That'd be my best guess, but it's just a guess
awestover89 Posted December 4, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2017 From a post on another thread, reports of divers in the water, so maybe mechanical or prep work for the azipod resealing https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=54687965&postcount=
Mango Tango Posted December 4, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted December 4, 2017 (edited) From a post on another thread, reports of divers in the water, so maybe mechanical or prep work for the azipod resealing https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=54687965&postcount=116 I saw on the webcam what looked liked divers. Thanks for the link. Edited December 4, 2017 by Mango Tango

Ken at the beach Posted December 4, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2017 There was a tweet by James Van Fleet that Liberty was delayed by fog.
jelayne Posted December 4, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 4, 2017 Initially we were told fog, but when the Breeze started moving at 5ish that didn’t sync with us sitting. Captain finally announced that divers were taking longer than anticipated and estimated departure at 8, we left closer to 8:30. At muster Captain said original plan was to travel at 21.5 knots between Galveston & Nassau ( that was leaving at 4). Looks like we will have to haul ....... to get to Nassau & get the repair done. HicksRA Posted December 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2017 Since they’ve had divers under the ship for the last number of returns to Galveston, I’m guessing that they must be having to change the lubricant in the azipod(s) due to the bad seals which necessitates the current cruise going to Nassau for three days. (Whew, long sentence).
Galveston Cruiser Posted December 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 4, 2017 Weather report shows a dense fog advisory; Galveston is infamous for delays due to fog. That'd be my best guess, but it's just a guess Fog is less an issue than most believe. Yes, it does occur. Most years, none; other years 5-6 times. Fog is much more prevalent on the mainland. Foggy on Sunday but ships had no issues arriving. Clear Sunday evening with lots of rain. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

In December 2009 we were fog delayed until Tuesday morning...sitting at the dock since Sunday. Over 900 guests took the offer of a full refund and got off the ship Monday night. Once we sailed, it was a great and uncrowded cruise!
George C Posted December 5, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 5, 2017 so happy we did Navigator rather than our normal Galveston Liberty cruise, RCCL must have loved it since they only could serve the cheap generic booze

awestover89 Posted December 5, 2017 #13 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Liberty goes to Nassau? Sent from my iPhone using Forums This one is a special cruise because she needed work done on her azipods. It was originally a western Caribbean but because they needed to have work done they had to switch to the Bahamas Sent from my SM-G955U using Forums mobile app
CCC3 Posted December 5, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Ah! I wish the Bahamas would figure into their schedule once in awhile. It’d be a nice change from Coz-Costa Maya-Roatan and Coz-Jamaica-Grand Cayman. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
MUFC_RedDevil Posted December 5, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 5, 2017 I was in Liberty from 11/26-12/2, left two hours late on 11/26 due to divers in the water. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

internetwhiz Posted December 17, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 17, 2017 Is it known in advance when Liberty sails to the Bahamas for repairs or not? Sent from my iPhone using Forums It’s only happened this one time since she’s been in Galveston, and yes, the passengers knew about 2-3 months ahead so they could cancel, move to another sailing, or stay and get a dramatic discount.
