floridian1 Posted December 8, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2017 My Family of 4 (2 adults + 10yo and 7yo) are between two dates June 9-16 and August 4-11. If you had to choose which would it be? June or August and why? I've read that june is dryer and slightly less busy and august is wetter but with the salmon spawning a better chance to see wildlife. The prices are about the same. Thank you in advance!
oaktreerb Posted December 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Wht do you want to see? Either is good. I would choose longer days and more snow in the mountains so first choice would be June...also less crowded and fewer children. Early August is also a good time to go but frequently more expensive. Read the trip reports at the top of the Alaska forum and note when the cruise was...June or August ...what was their experience. What wildlife experiences did people enjoy and can you afford the excursions or do you prefer to enjoy wildlife that you can enjoy without spending a lot of money. Dancing Shoes Posted December 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2017 When I decided to cruise Alaska, (upcoming trip is August 15) I could go any month. I would rather risk some rain for a better chance of seeing wildlife. I also knew I wanted an excursion up the Tracy Arm Fjord, and August would be a good month for that! mapleleaves Posted December 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2017 I assume this is a RT cruise . Are you taking a bear watching excursion or just hoping to come across a bear? If you're taking an excursion, you need to research the peak time period for that specific location. If you 're just hoping for a bear sighting either month could work. i'd choose june, for the chance of drier weather.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 9, 2017 I would pick June as it is still early in the season. Keith
Rare Coral Posted December 9, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 9, 2017 I would pick June. It is historically dryer. I have sailed when it poured the entire cruise. We are not talking some rain but torrential downpour. It was difficult to do anything. There was also severe fog when it wasn't pouring. I will pick a historically dry month each time. The week you pick in June is one of my favorite weeks.

JT1962 Posted December 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 9, 2017 My choice would be June. I have been in mid-May and late August. I loved May since there was still lots of snow on the mountains and we only had 1 rainy day. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
