Linda the Book Lover Posted December 9, 2017 #26 Share Posted December 9, 2017 The "regular" Haven was intended to be for families. If future ships increase the size of the Haven sundeck (like Bliss' is larger), NCL could create an adult-only section of the Haven or possibly increase the size of VIBE, give Haven guests access to VIBE (leaving passes for others), and Haven guests could go back and forth between the Haven and VIBE. Epic's Posh is adults only and both times we sailed her someone reminded the parents of the adults only rule. Children in the Haven did not bother us as we did not use the pool or the hot tub. I like your idea.
OCruisers Posted December 9, 2017 #27 Share Posted December 9, 2017 That's because most of the people who sail on HAL have kids in their 40's. But they have grandchildren. ;)

BEACHBARB Posted December 9, 2017 #29 Share Posted December 9, 2017 I would normally be for that but last cruise we met a 5 year old who captured our hearts and we are now best friends with his family and keep in touch and have visited them from Pittsburgh to NY. You never know who you're going to meet and love.
OHRiverRats Posted December 9, 2017 #30 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Absolutely! I’m also keeping an eye on Virgin because of this very thing. Oh to be able to enjoy the hot tub with no splashing children!!

Rhea58 Posted December 9, 2017 #32 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Definitely yes. My last Epic cruise there was a family with screaming child who were joined by 2 other mothers with boisterous young-uns in Cagneys. Since folks are paying extra to have a fine dining experience, this is intolerable!!!! Needless to say I had to give up my window table and move to dine in peace. newmexicoNita Posted December 9, 2017 #33 Share Posted December 9, 2017 When our kids aren't with us, we simply ignore the other kids! Never have been bothered by them. We've been in Vegas when there were TONS of families....and sometimes, you have to wonder what parents are thinking.....kids were bored to death! Not only bored but one time and it was about midnight there were 2 little girls, one not much older than 2 or 3 playing with the revolving doors leading from the strip into the casino. That was the worst we saw. We did used to take our kids and our grandkids to Vegas but they either old enough to stay alone or we planned baby sitting ahead of time. Whether it is a cruise ship or Vegas, it is important for parents to understand there is a time and place for kids; use your head mom and dad. Yes, if you choose to take the kids, there are certain adult activities you may have to give up. Not everyone finds your kids as entertaining as you do. newmexicoNita Posted December 9, 2017 #34 Share Posted December 9, 2017 We were on Breakaway last April, thinking we had missed Spring break for the most part we were not prepared for 2254 kids on the ship. To top it off many of them were rude and totally out of control. It almost ruined our cruise. We learned, plan your cruises carefully. On the other hand I don't think I would book an adult only cruise just because I don't want to be around kids. I love to talk to well behaved kids, they are so entertaining and delightful. What I don't like are: kids in the hot tubs, kids who have not been taught manners and kids in the upscale dining rooms unless they are old enough to sit quietly for 2 hours. As I said a minute ago, parents have to remember, if they are going to take little ones on a vacation that is not strictly a family type there are activities they have to give up. On our first cruise with our great granddaughter, she was just turning 4. Her parents always fed her before we went for dinner and she loved Splash Academy: Problem solved. Now she would be thrilled, at almost 11 to dine with the adults in a formal setting.

DarkJedi Posted December 9, 2017 #36 Share Posted December 9, 2017 There are plenty of adult only cruises each year, many of them focus on different lifestyles but no one is required to be a part of that lifestyle to go on the cruise, you just have to be open minded, non-judgemental, and willing to enjoy the cruise. Several years ago we were on a cruise that ended up sharing 3 ports with a gay cruise. On the first port we took an excursion where 7 couples were from that cruise and us. They were great to hang out with and we ended up seeing them in the other ports, fun loving and great people. And every time we saw their ship the people on board were having a blast. I'm not gay, have no interest in a guy's hairy butt, and think my beard would be like velcro to another beard, but it sold me on the idea that gay cruises could be a lot of fun if you don't judge. Cruiser Bruiser Posted December 9, 2017 #37 Share Posted December 9, 2017 LOL Ours are in their 40's and we have grandkids but no HAL for us. :') Ha! Reserved poolside cabana for the whole week. That's the big draw for me. But yes, it will be a bit more sedate than NCL. Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app
zitsky Posted December 9, 2017 #38 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Is the time between Christmas and New Years more likely to have kids on board? I'm on NCL. Also it's a South America cruise.

Rosethorn40 Posted December 9, 2017 #45 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Nor our two. Also none on 48 day HAL Amazon Explorer and very very few on TAs we've taken with NCL and RCCL. Love Viking River (Done 3), and Viking does discourage children. Would love to try Viking Ocean as they are adult only. A 48-day cruise and TA probably don't appeal much to families (Cost, length of time to take kids out of school, etc.) It would be lovely if there were 7-day cruises to the Caribbean that were adult only. Of course the major lines usually have an adult area, some for a fee, others fee free, but my experience has been for the fee areas (NCL's Vibe, Princess' Sanctuary) you have to have priority boarding to get a spot. The non-fee areas one has to be up at dawn and stake out a spot.

OceanBlueWaters Posted December 9, 2017 #47 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Kids having "meltdowns" and irresponsible parents consistently irritates me. Also pets that bark. Just be kind to others who want to enjoy vacation. Most of us planned WAY ahead of time for a bit of relaxation. Screaming kids and barking dogs need to be reeled in. Be responsible. Use common sense. JMO

Some adults misbehave, so we should ignore all misbehaving children. OBW, when do you see dogs on NCL?? Absolutely! Just kidding. There is a place for children, and many children are well behaved. And when the children are misbehaving and not being corrected it is the parent's fault. Sadly, people are massively taking advantage of the ADA allowance for animals. And since there is no standard training requirement anyone can simply state that they have X pet for medical/psychological reason and take them where ever they want. I have seen some of the worst behaved pets with people standing saying that they are their emotional support animals.
