Is it really that bad at the BOTTOM of the ship?

Recommended Posts

We are going on a cruise that was kind of last minute booking, so there was not a log of cabins to pick from. Doing a B2B on the Liberty. First leg we are on the 8th deck inside. Second leg deck 2 inside. Usually we have a balcony, but we have had inside rooms in the past. Just curious as how the bottom of the ship will be. We make the most of every cruise, and I believe we will have a wonderful time. This is our second B2B on Liberty, had a hump balcony and loved it. Anyway would love to hear from those who have sailed on the bottom!

Other than the requirement that you must shovel coal into the engines when you bunk on deck 2, those staterooms are very quiet and extremely convenient to getting off and on the ship at ports.

we have a hump balcony on Liberty coming up next month, our friends are next to us so hopefully the cabin attendant will open the balconies for us.

I love the hump cabins. The only thing I don't like about a balcony is the smoke from the smokers! We had smokers next to us and we asked our room steward if they were supposed to be smoking on their balcony and he said no. He gave them a warning but it didn't do any good.

This will no longer be a requirement on the two future Project Icon LNG ships, until then cover your mouth and nose while shoveling!

jeanneful, I won't try to match the wit of previous responses - quite amusing - but we have resided in steerage once or twice. No difference from the higher decks except less perceived ship motion and, as Clarea said, its usually pretty quiet. We try to book near the stairs/elevators when below the Promenade/Centrum deck.

Next time go directly to security. They are the ones that can eforce the ban

Good one Bob, I was thinking they would need to use oars to row, row, row the ship!

Deck 2 or 3 has its advantages!!!

I like being low, easier access for disembarking in port. The only downfall is on ships with an ice rink, where you can`t walk from one end to the other on Deck 3.

I agree with this downfall. We stayed on Deck 2 forward on Adventure. It was a pain when they dock and allow people off from deck 1 Aft. We would have to walk up to deck 5 and cross over and then go back down to 1. Technically, we could have crossed at Deck 4, but that led us through the smokey casino.

So, that cabin on Deck 2 was my least favorite location, but it didn't ruin our cruise or anything. It was still an amazing cruise!

We started our cruise career in the cheapest cabins on the bottom decks. There is nothing wrong with them and if today they had the type of cabin I am now after (which I guess is impossible since you'd get wet from the waves on your balcony form time to time) then I'd not be averse to a low deck.

I’d try to avoid being over the bow thrusters - stern thrusters too, if the ship does not have Azi pods (Liberty has pods). We did that once on a Carnival Ship for the same last minute reason. Definitely a ruckus on port mornings.

We love the Coves on Carnival’s Dream class ships. 2nd deck from the bottom, close to the water and easy on/off on port days.
