Princess Cruising with Kids

We have done NCL, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival.

They usually have lots of activities for kids.

My kids don't like the "Kids clubs". They like to explore the ship, use the pools, waterparks, ping pong, chess,. mini golf, trivia, etc...

Is there enough for them to do on Princess cruises?

Anyone have kids that go to the teens clubs, do they get bored and restless there?

My kids are 14 and 16 and are quite independent.

No water parks . Plenty of trivia and the other things you mentioned.

NCL, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean are very family oriented. You will not find water slides, rock climbing walls, rope courses, or mini water parks on Princess. Princess does have pools, ping pong, chess, and trivia. Princess mostly caters to a older demographic.

If you want to see what the Princess ships have to offer, here is my review of the Sapphire Princess with lots of pictures ...

If your kids are used to, and enjoy, the types of things that the RCCL and Carnival ships have to offer, in all honesty, I would be afraid that Princess would not compare, or even come close.

Princes does have the kids club... but not the other kid/family areas and activities that you seem to mention.

Not sure this is the answer you were hoping for, but def. my own personal thoughts/opinion.

Except for waterparks, Princess has all the other things they enjoy.

Our children and now our grandchildren always went to the first night for the Teen Thing to meet others and did their own thing with their new friends while cruising.

Our three grandchildren loved the kids club and couldn't wait for it to open each morning.

Not as much as the other lines.

Sometimes less is more for the 14 - 16 age group as far as organized things. Just a place to hang out and meet up with others and do their on thing elsewhere on the ship is what they enjoy.

At that age our grandchildren liked Princess way better than RCCL or NCL. (They never cruised on Carnival so don't know.)

They were also OK with Celebrity but just met others on their own.

Guess it depends on the child.

I would agree with you, as well. Given the activities, shows and age group, particularly if they aren't into kids clubs, RCCL would get my vote.

Don't hesitate to cruise with your teens on Princess. We took our youngest son who on our very first Princess cruise when he was 16 and he loved spending his time in the Teen Club. He spent almost his entire time there on sea days and in ports spent the day with us but the evenings in the Teen Club. Yes, there aren't rock climbing walls and stuff, but he loved just being able to hang out with other teens, play video games and the various activities they had planned in the club each day.

When children go to the children's club as teenagers they tend to meet others at the beginning of the cruise. Thereafter they seem to agree to meet there as a group before launching the group to different venues about the ship. My daughter often has the cabin telephone full of voice messages on when to go to the club to meet up.

There are things to do within the club but the teens just wander in and out as they please.

Regards John
