I’ve not been diagnosed, but thanks for your opinion –

whether it is against the law or not, Princess has an obligation to keep their ships kid friendly in the public area's as long as they advertise to be a kid friendly cruise.` The pictures that I saw, the story about a balcony and other stuff would of pushed me to sue. I would demand a full refund for all expenses. If it means taking the issue public...I would. Lesson learned. Don't mess with my children. I have a hard enough time keeping them protected from adult natured entertainment.

I know once someone has formed an opinion, especially one formed in emotion, it’s difficult to speak reasonably about it. How were children harmed on that cruise? The pictures you saw were posted on a website and seemed to me to be taken inside a cabin. The story on the balcony could have been part of any straight, non-porn acting couple. Let me tell you about the three pair of straight swingers on Dawn Princess. Should I sue Princess because I had to be witness what was going on between them? No – I actually got a good laugh about it – they say us gay people are promiscuous.

People need to realize that this is a ship that attracts many different cultures. We’re not in Kansas anymore…if that’s an issue for some people, they shouldn’t book a cruise in the first place.

I have no doubt that children are exposed to adult behavior every day on cruise ships. See my statement about the three couples on Dawn Princess. What puzzles me is why when it’s adult behavior precipitated by straight people, no one is suing the cruise line.

As for pictures, unless poster X gives me permission to share the pictures I will not do so.

The objections I hear are based on the latter issue. I have no idea why this is so difficult for some of you to understand. I would not want my children (or myself) on vacation with a group that was filming porn. They were not "on vacation", they were WORKING. Much of the hard evidence you seem to want is available to you on their website.

I have not seen anything on the website or from anyone on that trip that indicates these actors were working in areas where anyone who didn’t want to be would be exposed. There’s been a lot of supposition about public sex in public areas but nothing to back that up…

Last thing: I find the reference to "Republicans for Jesus" to be highly offensive. I am a Christian and I have nothing but love and respect for gay people. There was no reason to bring a comment like that into it.

And we thank you for that – given that you are one of the few Christians who does have love and respect for gay people, hopefully you can understand why you are stereotyped into a different role. Not right, but understandable.

This isn't about a gay group. It's about behavior that should not have gone on in front of other passengers including children. Of course I'm sure by now you have hit the triangle for this thread to disappear.

No evidence of illicit behavior going on in front of children and when straight illicit behavior happens on a ship, nobody is suing. And no, I haven’t hit the triangle for this thread to disappear. The activist in me knows that dialog about a controversial subject – no matter how swayed it is – is more important than silence.

Unfortunately this doesn’t have to do with porn – there is a definite prejudice slant because this is a group of gay men. Your advice about handling inappropriate activity on deck is well founded and I would venture to guess that Princess' complaints would increase ten fold if straight, inappropriate behavior was reported. Princess did not sanction any illicit activity for this cruise in public areas, no matter what those on this board, the Bear website or anyone else might lead you to believe.

The real issue here is that many want to have an entire group of people denied the privilege of cruising because others might find that the activities of some of that group's members objectionnable. So, do we disallow all teens because a few act up, get naked, and screw in the hot tubs? Or twenty somethings from Oregon? Or blacks, or people from Mexico, or....? If it's wrong to discriminate against some, then it is wrong to discriminate against all.

 

It was reported, and reliably so, that some members of the Bears group refused to obey requests for proper public behavior and were escorted off the ship during the cruise. This is all that Princess, or any cruise line can do. It's the law.

Now is there evidence or not? PM me if there is. I'd like to see it. I was worried cuz there are some very questionable pictures on the previous website's pic page. However, if you look now, while there are some pics of people I wouldn't want a kid to see, they're in private. I suppose a kid could wander back there and see it accidentally, but that could happen anywhere and I'd blame the parents for letting their kid run off.

 

I was on that cruise. I was worried beforehand. However, once on the ship, they did a great job isolating the Bears into their own private areas. I heard they had lots of "fun" back there, but since it was sectioned off, it wouldn't bother the rest of us.

 

I'm willing to believe there was some bad activity, but I wanna either see pictures, or hear a complete account of how they saw what they did. Not secondhand stuff. Plus, if it was an isolated act or not cuz you can see a group do stupid things all the time.

OK - here is my 2 cents on nthe BEAR cruise.

My wife, adult son and I were on the cruise - we did not know about it until a couple of weeks prior to the cruise.

FACT: There were 450 of them on the cruise - this I got from the Maitre De Hotel and the Captain personally.

FACT: They had the lower PC dining room reserved for 8:15 every night - This also from the Maitre De Hotel and Captain.

FACT: They lunched and breakfasted at tables by themselves and always dressed appropriately.

FACT: They were very polite when you met them in the hallways or other ublic places.

FACT: They did pretty much take over the aft pool - but there are three other pools available and the aft pool is adults only anyway.

I never witnessed any NUDE or LEWD activities going on in public areas - What they do in their own room or balcony is their own business, just as what you and your spouse or girl/boy friend do in your own room is your own business.

I saw no public selling of their materials going on anywhere in any public areas.

In other words - they did not bother us/we did not bother them - we had a very enjoyable cruise and I'm sure they did too.

Those of you who were not on the cruise should not be spreading what you THINK happened or what you HEARD happening.

What an awful story. Unfortunately, after being frequent cruisers for over 25 years, we are not surprised. And its not just Princess. RCL has a similar policy about not advising passengers regarding large groups. Years ago we used to advise folks that its a good idea to have your travel agent ask (at the time of booking) if there are any large groups booked on the cruise. However, now the cruise lines feel they must protect the privacy of the groups and have no conscience about the effect on other passengers. We are aware of a very conservative religious group that once filled half or a huge RCL ship. This group "took over" the ship for a week, brought their own entertainment, had exclusive rights to the early sitting (everyone else had to go 2nd sitting, and harassed any woman who dared to wear a revealing swim suit (this meant any 2 piece suit). This religious group also did not believe in drinking alcohol and accordingly preached to the other passengers who were "caught" drinking. In your situation you might want to start writing to various news organizations and newspapers with the hope that somebody might want to follow-up on your experience. The cruise line may not care about a few passenger complaints,, but they really do fear any negative publicity.

I admit, I was not everywhere on the ship 24/7 to follow the actios of the group - I had better things to do! The onlyn thing I observed was a couple of them hugging in the aft pool one day.

I am offended of overt demonstrations of sexuality by anyone straight or gay Fact is you can't go anywhere without seeing something "offensive." But to make it always a gay straight isue does nothing for either side of the discussion. I there anyone so naive as to believe that on a cruise possibly one of the single most romantic things/places I can think of, that there wouldn't be some overt sexual behavior in any group of 500 or 450 or even 50. So for the sake of everyone bothsides back-off. Unless Princess covers all their balconies, enforces the old high school 6" rule, and outlaws all PDA's (physical display of affection) there is going to be someone offended every cruise. By the way is it not just a bit perverted to capture anyone on camera in an intimate moment? I for one would like to avoid any cruise with a major group. The worst was the Professional Wrestlers ugh!!!
