57grandma Posted January 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2018 I am soooooo upset! We have 3 Boardwalk balcony cabins! I called RCI to see if they would remove the 2 dividers upon arrival and was told that they are no longer removing them except for cleaning ( for safety purposes)! We are 6 seniors taking our first cruise together-we have all cruised before once or twice, but I am the one to organize this on Harmony after having a boardwalk cabin on Allure. Has anyone else heard this? I wish we could sign some kind of release form............

It's not unusual for the customer service reps to have no idea about what goes on during the cruise.
Sherm813 Posted January 16, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2018 We were on Freedom (Dec 23 - 31) and they opened the balcony dividers between our cabin and our son's family.
Rare little britain Posted January 16, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2018 In the FAQ database used by the call centre when they don't know the answers, the official line is 'balcony dividers cannot be opened on board'. They can say that till they are blue in the face as the 'rule'. What happens on board is often different
dwayneb236 Posted January 16, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Was just on the Liberty. Had 3 rooms in a row. Asked our steward when we got on to open them. Was done in 30 minutes. So RCI does still do this.

cb at sea Posted January 16, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 16, 2018 That's right....the folks on the phone have likely NEVER been on or seen a ship. They are reading off some script...very generic. Ask the cabin attendant. If they open, and it's safe to do so, it will be done.
dwayneb236 Posted January 16, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 16, 2018 From what I could see from our hump balcony, we were the only cabins that had the dividers opened. We had a pretty good view both ways and I didn't really notice any others.
bingo3 Posted January 17, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 17, 2018 we opened our own last cruise and closed it at night. No one ever said a thing.:)
kimberlym4 Posted January 17, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Can you tell me, if we have connecting rooms does that mean that the divider on the balcony is also "openable"?
Lando C. Posted January 17, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 17, 2018 since it matters so much, drop him an extra $20 to let him know that you and the family appreciate it! with the so-so air conditioners on our last cruise, i tipped our steward for grabbing us a fan. lol
DonnaK Posted January 17, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Can you tell me, if we have connecting rooms does that mean that the divider on the balcony is also "openable"? It depends on the ship. Some ships have dividers that are fixed in place and cannot be opened.

If you want to give extra at the end of your cruise that's the time to do it ;)
Clarea Posted January 17, 2018 #17 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Is there a way to tell if the divider opens? We are on the Independence. All dividers on side-facing balconies have the capability to open on Indy.
mcchane1 Posted January 17, 2018 #18 Share Posted January 17, 2018 All dividers on side-facing balconies have the capability to open on Indy. Do you know about the aft cabins on the Indy? They look similar to the side facing but I never paid that much attention. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

mcchane1 Posted January 17, 2018 #20 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Balcony dividers on aft-facing staterooms on Voyager/Freedom class cannot be opened. Well darn, oh well, our cabins have a connecting interior door so we can make that work. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
maryjaden Posted January 17, 2018 #21 Share Posted January 17, 2018 We sailed on harmony in August and our cabin steward had no problem opening the divider for us. Just ask when you get on this ship.
bob brown Posted January 17, 2018 #22 Share Posted January 17, 2018 we opened our own last cruise and closed it at night. No one ever said a thing.:) If you do open it yourself (I believe you need a tool to do that), be sure to carefully close and secure it when done....one cruise ship that recently went through a powerful storm, had some improperly closed balcony divider's get blown around and break windows....
Rare whitshel Posted January 17, 2018 #23 Share Posted January 17, 2018 We were just in Oasis last week, although we didn't have our divider open, we saw a lot of them opened below us. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
