I want cheers but he already had drinks on us, what to do?

I was planning for us to purchase cheers on our upcoming cruise on the Breeze but then we realized my husband already qualified for the casino drinks on us card for this cruise. I know we both have to purchase cheers so I was wondering what the chances are if we purchase cheers that the casino would offer him something else, maybe steak house dinners, spa gift card or whatever, in place of the drinks on us card. Anyone have experience with this? I like cheers better in that you only have to wait 5 min not 15 between drinks and you can use it anywhere on the ship vs just the casino. Thanks for any information.

Drinks on Us is only good in the Casino while he’s playing.

On top of this, the drinks are far and few in between.

I get the Drinks on Us card also. I also tip generously when I do get a drink. I still rarely have them come by. Definitely not like Vegas where they will come around twice before I even have my drink finished.

Yes we know the Drinks on Us card is only in the casino and the last few times we have had them we found tipping goes a long way. There were slow times but we usually tipped well and had a few regular waiters that would give us drinks even if we weren't gambling and would come by often. We do like with cheers we can get drinks anywhere on the ship so we will probably just go with that this time. Thanks for the input.

I usually have the casino drinks on us card. I usually buy a bottle of liquor for my cabin pre-cruise from Fun Shops and find that is sufficient to supplement the DOU card. And that's way cheaper than Cheers. I carry on juice embarkation day to mix with my bottle of liquor and also take my favorite cruising drinking cup. On my last cruise this month, I received a letter in my cabin with a casino comp for steakhouse selections in the dining room for 2 (in addition to 2 bottles of wine and other comps).

Ask the casino host. We've had them come up to give us the card and when they found out we had Cheers they didn't bother so we'd go talk to the host and always get something.

Thanks! I was wondering if we could do that, I guess it never hurts to ask.

Is the DOU card part of a Premier cruise or just a comp for being a "bigger" player?

Either way, on premier cruises you will get all kinds of other comps, including steakhouse dinners. For the "bigger' players, you will most likely be met by the casino host so just ask for a steakhouse comp and you will get it.

Happens to us both ways. Last 2 cruises, I was offered Steakhouse dinners when we were traveling with other guests. I just told them that and they changed it to 4 dinners on one cruise and 6 steakhouse selections in the MDR on the other with no need to ask.

I know this already may have been addressed, but just adding my 2cts. Since you have to buy cheers for both persons in the cabin, I would just do that. Drinks on us card is only usable in the casino. He can use it there , but if he likes to have a drink with dinner in the dining room or wherever, then I still think the cheers purchase for both people in the room would be best.

I'm thinking he gets drinks in the casino...and with cheers, you can both have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner each night, and a liqueur for dessert if you wish to make best use of it. Just my 2cts.

edit to add... on my last cruise and the onlly time I purchased cheers, I was not really spending as much time in the casino as usual, so it took me till day 4 of a 6 day cruise to get the drinks on us card. I did not go looking for the card, because I already had cheers, and my very attentive drink waiter asked me why not...so I told him, that the dos card was really not at that point of any worth to me.

That night when I went to my room, I had a voucher for a free bottle of wine. So just saying , hubbie let someone know int the casino, that he has cheers and really does not need the dos card, so you may and probably should get some other perk and thank from casino staff. no guarantee this will happen, but it did for me, so maybe.

If you have 5000+ points on your previous cruise you get the DOU card.

Premier cruise you also get the DOU card.

If you have Cheers the DOU card is useless.

We always go with Cheers (more convenient) and make a point of letting the casino host know. We don't ask for anything specific. Just explain we have Cheers and the DOU card is not worth anything. All the hosts we've had have always surprised us with something.

Thanks for the input. Our last cruise we both had the 5,000 points previously so we both had DOU cards and it was nice but then at times felt limited since you can only use in the casino. I think at that time we decided we rather have cheers the next time but a bummer we go out of Galveston and it doesn't start until day 2. We did book the steakhouse for the first night so can get the free or discounted wine. We have cruised with & without cheers but I think since its only the two of us this time were looking forward to getting our money's worth this time! lol

I too usually start the cruise with the DOU card. To buy cheers or not, I think it depends on you and your husband. I am not really a day drinker. I might have 1 frozen drink during the day. While cruising (in single cabins) with my friend, we usually meet up for dinner in the casino, play a little and grab a drink which usually lasts thru dinner and then it is back to the casino. If I buy a drink or 2 a day while I am not in the casino, it is cheaper than buying cheers for the week. My friend however is a day drinker, so she buys the cheers package because it is cheaper for her, having 5-6 drinks during the day.

My friend does not always have DOU in the beginning so if they offer it to her, she will ask for something else as she has cheers. Some times they offer something else, some times no.

If the cheers package will be $800 for the week for the 2 of you, I guess you need to figure out if you will spend $800 outside of the casino bars for the week. Either way, have a wonderful cruise!

  • 4 months later...

Well it turns out we both ended up with DOU cards from the first day, that was nice. It worked out well, we would stop in the casino and get a glass or two of wine on the way to dinner and any drinks we wanted outside of the casino we just paid for. Now hoping we have the DOU cards in August on the Dream! We will for sure have them on our first Premier cruise in Sept.

My husband was issued DOU card on day 4 of our 8 day cruise last month. We just booked another cruise for May of next year. Will he know before we leave if he will get another DOU card for the new cruise, or does he have to earn points on the new cruise to qualify for the card again? With this new cruise being a 14 day, we are debating whether to buy Cheers or pay as we go.
