The Spirit stretch?

I shall be on board myself for the new Maiden voyage and just 2 cabins from the cut so good to see that things appear to be forward.

I -- and I imagine many others -- would greatly appreciate reports. I am particularly interested in how much refurbishment of soft goods took place throughout the ship, how the new dining arrangements are working etc.,

Enjoy your cruise.

According to one of the tracking websites she is currently north east of Palermo going west at 21 knots so looks like she is fully under test.

The location makes sense and I am sure there would be classification society surveyors onboard. I shall be on board myself for the new Maiden voyage and just 2 cabins from the cut so good to see that things appear to be forward.

21 knots.....that’s right up there with her typical 20 knot cruising speed. Not sure what her top speed is but when we went through the Gulf of Aden and the Somalia pirates area in November it was pretty much pedal to the metal.

Good Morning Daveywavey70 & eastwoodboy - its good to know that some Cruise Critic Posters will be on board at an early stage. We are in one of the ' New ' Cabins on 7 Deck in early July so would be very grateful for some Reporting of these Suites, as well as an overall picture of the Public Spaces and Restaurants.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Though we don’t have a cruise on the Spirit booked right now we’re very much looking forward to seeing the “new” Spirit. Loved her in November and actually haven’t been all that thrilled about the chances so time and maybe some pictures (hint, hint) will help.

If I have my facts straight, the Spirit sets off on it's first post-refit cruise, a week from tomorrow.

Are there any reports? Any news on how this is all going?

I assume it's floating and the duct tape is working!

Other than a report up thread almost a week ago that she was out apparently doing sea trials there hasn’t been any news of late. Sea trials obviously means they’ve got the basic structure back together and at least the power, communications, etc., reconnected to permit navigation. The completion and status of interior and exterior finishes is probably in its final stages.

How can one tell which staterooms/suites are in the new section? For our 7/24 cruise on the Spirit, we'll be in 727, wich we assume is forward of the new section. J & J

I think 727 is well forward of the added area and other than the redecorating that might have been done during the drydock there’s no reason to think your cabin has changed. I haven’t done a complete old deck new deck deck plan comparison but it looks like the added cabins would be around 750 and aft.

View the deck plan and the 'new' suites are the ones marked * -- they have (according to the same doc) 'walk-in rain shower (no full-sized bath).'

Suite numbers are 648 to 657, 752 to 761 & 844 to 849.

Yes, Spirit Release 2.0 is the same design as the Muse.

Booked an "old fashioned" cabin with the tub for my wife on Muse.

Perplexes me why the seemingly to me wasted space in Dolce Vita.

I have checked the ship locator website every day since last Sunday when she was out at sea. All week it has been showing as moored in the Fincantieri yard in Palermo although that is not to say they may not have nipped out for few hours at some time.

Would expect the taking on of provisions to take place at Civitavecchia during Saturday prior to our cruise leaving on the Sunday. It may even need to start on the Friday as just restocking is a major job so would be looking to see Spirit leave Palermo either Thursday or Friday. So will leave thinking about packing until then just in case but hopefully all on schedule.

I’ve just read on an Australian website that she’s due to leave the yard on 1st May.

https://www.theaustralian.com.au/life/travel/on-board-cruising/silverseas-silver-spirit-split-and-lengthened-for-added-value/news-story/46ba9c34da8e1ab1573a6822cae6272b

Was starting to worry she wouldn’t be ready!

Unfortunately that site requires a subscription, at least when I try, so I can’t see the article. My only concern would be that while they might make the May 6 first sailing date the work won’t be completely done. I can see the reports of carpet still being installed, painting, etc., etc. I hope not but it has happened before.

Silversea have just uploaded an album on Facebook called Silver Spirit lengthening.
Good spot. https://www.facebook.com/pg/SilverseaCruises/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10155482608036538

Many of the photos are of the shipyard, but the interior ones are new to me. Interesting that these photos are of areas like the Panorama, well away from the cut.

Agree. The only space close to the cut is the new and much smaller casino that has been relocated to at least part of the area previously part of the Stars Supper Club. I think that’s still totally within what was the existing aft part.

Having spent the night out at sea Silver Spirit is now back in Fincantieri yard at Palermo.

I hope this is just to offload workers rather than any problems surfacing as they will need to leave for Civitavecchia soon.

I imagine that at least basic provisions will or have been loaded in Palermo. No reason they can’t load non perishables there and only have to load fresh goods like vegetables, etc., in Civitavecchia. Of course they’ve also have to do staff and crew training considering the changes and new personnel being added to the ship. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t head out for Civitavecchia until Friday or very early Saturday. Of course I have no idea what “relaunch” festivities they may have planned and where they are going to do that. Could be Palermo or Civitavecchia.
