RICO72 Posted February 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Ventura, currently on her Caribbean/USA sojourn, appears to be arriving back a smidge early according to Sothampton VTS. She was due on 12th March but now showing as alongside by 2345hrs on 11th March. Is this simply to give crew more time in preparation for her departure 12th March to refit, or does anyone know for sure why this is ?
terrierjohn Posted February 27, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Nothing advised on board and still showing as am12th March on cruise spreadsheet.
jocap Posted February 27, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2018 I don't know, but we came into S'ton at night before Aurora's refit in '14, and the workers were getting on board by 5am... the casino was demolished by the time we came back from breakfast. Our steward was preparing the cabins for them all- he said that over 1,000 would be living on board. We had to leave by a different gangway to the new arrivals. Tom Baker Posted February 27, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Is it a general refurb, carpets, paint, TVs etc or are they adding or removing remodeling venues like Sindhu or the Glasshouse?

No worries for me as will be asleep ready for the disembark in the morning. Fab cruise by the way. bal
philipsw285 Posted February 28, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 28, 2018 there's something wrong with all the arrival times if you look as they all say 18.06 as an arrival time I went on adonia a few years ago and that arrived at 10 pm the night before to have a container put on the top deck the week before they announced fathorm. I've looked at vts again this morning and I don't know if it was me reading it wrong before or it has changed.in now says 23.45 which is more understandable. I have a friend who used to do carpet and flooring replacement for p&o cruises and he said back in 2012 when I last saw him on a ship that they had to be at the dock at 10pm the previous night to get security clearance and were waiting dock side from midnight I know another team of carpet fitters that do princess mainly they go through the same routine or sail with the ship. basically the earlier the ship arrives the faster the work gets done some times they get on about 6am and have to be of with everything done by 3pm. I should imagine the maintenance team on ventura will be preparing certain parts of the ship in the days leading up to Southampton arrival and the cranes will load things like containers and rubbish bins on to the top deck once it's tied up. jocap Posted February 28, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 28, 2018 Yes, on the Aurora cruise I mentioned, there were teams of men working throughout the cruise, especially electricians laying those emergency light strips which run along the floors. Some cruisers got back to their cabins and found new carpets; one of the restaurants was closed after breakfast each day and a large team worked in there.I don't know how many workers got off again in S'ton, because Aurora sailed for Hamburg almost as soon as the cruisers had left... as our steward said, there would be over 1,000 sleeping in the cabins. It was a big refit inside, in 2014.
RICO72 Posted March 9, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted March 9, 2018 .............. and now, due to the cancelled Azores port call, she is due back even earlier. Southampton VTS have Ventura tied up alongside by 2200 on 11 March. I'm sure everyone trying to nod off in their balcony cabins that are shoreside will appreciate the 'kerfuffle' going on as all the elements for her refit are loaded for the next day departure !!! tartanexile81 Posted March 9, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 9, 2018 We’re on Ventura and did the Behind The Scenes Tour a couple of days ago. Someone asked the captain what time we’d be arriving in Southampton and he said they were aiming for 10:00pm on Sunday. You heard it from the horse’s mouth [emoji206]. However we’ve hit more bad weather today. We missed Praia da Vitoria as you know, because we had to go South to avoid Storm Riley before heading North. It’s been a bumpy week since we left Charleston. Today seems the worst day because the gales are hitting us side on instead of from the aft as previously. jeanlyon Posted March 9, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 9, 2018 Actually, when they come alongside I've never heard a thing. Always wonder how they do it so quietly.

Sent from my iPad using Forums I've been following you on AIS, and wondered if you might stop at the Azores after all- but your track showed you going between the 2 larger islands, at over 20 knots. I can see the big waves on the webcam :(

It was very frustrating when we knew we were so close. It would have been lovely to get off for a while. The Promenade deck has been closed today and it’s been pretty rough. How’s the snow with you? the english lady Posted March 10, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 10, 2018 Putting aside all the things about refits...if you look at the Southampton port cruise scheldule, most ships say they are leaving about 4.30pm. In actual fact with pando they are nearly always an hour later than that. Cunard seem to be better at leaving round about on time. OH has a radio scanner now so he can listen to the converstions. Sometimes it can be a ship coming in delaying departure..sometimes the Captains seem to agree among them selves which order they will leave in. tartanexile81 Posted March 10, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 10, 2018 The posts above are now irrelevant as we had to change course and head towards Spain for a medevac. Arriving as normal Monday Sent from my iPad using Forums

All gone now- safe journey on Monday! x
