Transportation from Civitavecchia to Rome airport

Are taxis readily available at the cruise port? Any idea what a taxi fare would run from the port to Rome airport? Would a pre arranged taxi or limo be smarter than just picking one up when arriving at the port? We will be arriving at the port on a Sat. so hopefully not as much traffic.

Thanks for any info.

A quick search on Trip Advisor suggests €85 for 2 in a shared service and about €120 for a private car. Our hotel in Civitavecchia is charging us €100 for a shuttle which might be shared, or just us, depending on whether other hotel clients are flying in at the same time.

CruiserBruce has it right and always remember if the price of a taxi is not a fixed price in many cities around the world some drivers will take you for a "ride". In other words not use a direct route to run up the fare.

I'll check out having a pre arranged car service to see what they charge.

Make sure that they will pick you up at the ship. Some do and it is very convenient ..... and some pick up their passengers at the entrance to the port - that is not as convenient because you have to take a shuttle from the ship to the entrance to the port.

If you can find more people on your roll call that want to share your private transportation the price p/p can be very low. We had 8 people in the van and they charged us 150 euros for all of us. It is about 1 hour ride from the ship to the FCO..

If you are not comfortable giving your credit card info when booking the private transfer, check with few transfer companies, the one that we used did not have that requirement.

Also check how long they will wait for you in case you are late.

wiselaw, for the reasons you said best to go with one of the companies that are often recommended on these boards as they do pick up at the ship and are very reputable. They do require a Credit Card for no shows but you pay in Euros.

Keith, yes it is a good reason to book with a reputable company, I agree ..... but some just charge too much (IMO). When I was booking the transfer last year one of the companies recommended on this board wanted a 100 euros more than the one that I booked - for exactly the same service, the same number of people. For some that is OK - for my group it was not.

We (two of us) are also looking for transportation to the Rome airport. Wieslaw, if you find a solution, we are willing to share in the costs, but we must leave the ship early, since our flight is at noon.

Tour and ride shares are arranged on your Roll Call, per board rules. As you don't mention ship, date or any other info, we can't direct you to the proper Roll Call. It would be a pretty wild shot in the dark that you would be on the same ship and date as wieslaw. However, if you re-read wieslaw's post, it appears that they sailed last year.

Hi Rina

it seems that this is your first post on CC - so welcome to the cruise critic.

Bruce is correct ( as always) and the suggested 'roll call' is a best and 'legal' place to look for others to share a ride or a tour. It is also a good idea to look at other roll calls that have the same departure/arrival dates as yours and the same arrival port

.

In your case your options are very limited - if you have a flight at noon, and if it is an overseas flight, most airlines want you to be at the airport 3 hours before your scheduled departure - so that means 9AM. It takes about 1 hour to get from Civitavecchia to FCO. So no train, no bus , probably no shared shuttle ......the only option would be prearranged private transportation.

For two or three people prices will vary a little but not as much as for 6 or 8 ( could be a big difference between what some charge). Chances to find others to share your early ride are small but possible.

And yes, Bruce is correct - we cruised last year.

Good luck
