Transatlantic Cruise - pounds and euros?

when we are in Port - will we have to use euros or pounds or will they take US dollars or credit cards? I guess I am thinking of vendors or cafe's or pubs.... also a tour in Gibraltar to the Rock? Booked tours through the ship for Funchal and Malaga - but maybe there would be a tip?

In port they will take their local currency plus credit cards. There maybe some tourist shops that will take other currencies but that’s an exception rather than the rule.

Most cruise ship port shops and restaurants, and tourist attractions will take US Dollars.

Did the Canary Island cruise in December. Expect to pay euro in Funchal and Malaga. You could tip in USD, but I wouldn't expect anyone to appreciate it.

 

In Gibraltar, you will pay in pounds. What your need to look out for is British Pounds (coins) are accepted in Gibraltar, however, Gibraltar Pounds (coins) are not accepted in Britain. Gibraltar is also no longer accepting older 5 pound notes, so if you have any 5 pound notes, they will need to be the newly issued ones.

Don`t take Dollars , take Euro and good old British Pounds .

Just get cash from an ATM, you need some local currency. Would you expect any vendor in the US to accept euros and pounds?

 

You're paying a premium for a Rock tour in Gibraltar booked through the ship. Excellent tours can be picked up by walk up, right outside the ship. Lowest price option as well. pounds and euros are accepted.

NO Good NEW British Pounds!!!!!! The old round ones have to be banked, they can't be spent anywhere. You have to have 12 sided ones.

Similarly NEW £5 notes as the old ones cannot be spent and the £10 was similarly removed on March 1st.
