We are doing a TA repositioning cruise from Rome to Ft. Lauderdale on the Crown Princess in early Nov. Has anyone been on this trip? What is the weather / sea condition on this route?

We've done several fall crossings. We've had great weather, ok weather, rough weather. This is our favorite time for TA cruises for several reasons. The weather has never been bad to the point that I even consider not doing it. We're on the same cruise you're taking, but we're boarding in Barcelona Oct. 23.

I've done many TA crossings, there is no guarantee, southern route will be a little warmer but winds, rough seas, type of weather, who knows? If someone is overly concerned, severely seasick prone, not the most ideal cruise choice. Cannot be predicted.

We left Rome last October 11th, sailed the Adriatic and western Med to Barcelona, and then continued on with a handful of ports in Spain (including the Canary Islands) and Gibraltar before crossing the Atlantic and arriving in Fort Lauderdale on November 5th. The weather was spectacular the entire time with highs in the mid to upper 70s and rain only overnight once. The water on the crossing was like glass. We had such good luck weather-wise that I'm afraid to do it again (although we loved the entire itinerary) because I'm afraid our luck will run out.

Our first TA was a couple of Octobers ago from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale. We couldn’t believe the smooth, glass like seas and the very warm temperatures all the way.

I too will be on that crossing, as we are boarding in Barcelona.

On three previous westbound TAs I have done that were scheduled to port in the Azores before starting across the Atlantic, due to weather conditions (twice it was the tail end of Atlantic hurricanes that were the causes), the stop at Ponta Delgada was cancelled and we visited the island of Madeira instead. I happen to really enjoy Madeira, so it wasn't really a problem. Plus, since Madeira is farther south, our route across the Atlantic was more southerly than what it would have been if we had visited the Azores, and, as a result, the weather was warmer. In fact, it was warm enough that the pools were busy, and I wished I had brought at least one pair of shorts!

I've yet to get to see Ponta Delgada, but am hoping this 4th attempt will be the charm!!
