grandmarnnurse Posted April 11, 2018 #26 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Carnival continues to take stuff away and now it may looking to find ways to take a few more $$$ from our wallets. What do you think ????? Why would it cost us $$, unless they raise the price of cruises? RCCL and NCL do not charge for their shows, but their cruise rates are sometimes (but not always) higher to begin with. I have not sailed with Carnival since 2007, but I have the Breeze booked for 2019 and the Magic booked for 2020. What type of shows do they currently have? USNUZULOOSE Posted April 11, 2018 #27 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Now they may want you to pay for better entertainment. I would not pay for a broadway show. If I do that I might as well stay home.
OCruisers Posted April 11, 2018 #28 Share Posted April 11, 2018 At least Carnival is making an effort to find what people want and is important to them.
ccruisequeen Posted April 11, 2018 #29 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Epic Rock and 88 keys are pretty good. Others like Diva's were just awful. But when you compare any to production shows like Ticket to Ride or Dancing in the Street you can see how they have fallen. I like participating in Studio VIP, and 88 keys on the Splendor was fun .Some of those singers belonged on Broadway. I would like to see some more Broadway style shows, like Princess and Disney. Organized Chaos Posted April 11, 2018 #30 Share Posted April 11, 2018 At least Carnival is making an effort to find what people want and is important to them.I agree with you 100%. I'm personally not interested in seeing a broadway show, but at least they're (possibly) looking at new entertainment ideas.

RWolver672 Posted April 11, 2018 Author #32 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Just got our post cruise email, nothing about entertainment other than the standard.....how would you rate, dancers, singers, etc. Nothing about broadway shows I just took mine out of curiosity from last weekends cruise and nothing either. I wonder if it's port specific. Mine was out of Galveston This was not a post cruise survey. A year or so ago I got an e-mail from Carnival asking if I would be interested in taking a survey every once in a while. I said yes and this was one of those surveys. They never have anything to do with a previous cruise.

caryatid Posted April 11, 2018 #34 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I hope I get this survey, I'd love to see the evening shows improve. We saw Flick on our last cruise and it was a joke. I also hope if they get better shows they'll start recruiting a higher caliber of talent. The live music on Carnival is always so good, I wish the same extended to the show performers. richfret Posted April 11, 2018 #35 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Regarding evening cruise shows, Carnival needs to review their passenger roster and determine what the average age normally is. Then plan their shows accordingly. I don't think a 55 year or older cruiser wants excessively loud music that hurts your ears and blinding flashing lights. Let's face it, that about the average age. Carnival thinks if is 18 year olds. Rock is OK once in awhile but not for every act for every show. Costumes should be costumes and not the cheap street wear outfits currently in use. The background computerized screen can be fantastic at times BUT if carried to an extreme, you might as well get rid of the stage and just have 3D type movies. I have completed 21 cruises (7 or 8 day cruises) and all have been with Carnival. In the beginning when we first started taking cruises, I would talk about the shows with every one I met. Now all I say is how loud they are. I imagine the costs have gone down considerably with elimination of live bands, decreased numbers of acting personnel, street wear for costumes and computerized screening replacing more personnel. But don't kid yourself. It shows. Sometimes, really shows. (Sorry about that pun) I have a cruise already purchased for 2019 and 2020 but will probably spend more time in the Casino than the theater. Maybe that is the Carnival plan. Oh well, probably be the same shows anyway.
NPCIN Posted April 11, 2018 #36 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I received this same exact survey as the OP probably about 3 months ago. It's definitely not a post cruise survey as some are speculating.

stevefrisco Posted April 11, 2018 #38 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Nope. Not buying that analogy. Voting and voting with ones wallet are different things. I "Vote" because I have a vested interest in the direction the course of events take, in the place I live. I cruise because I want a vacation. If I don't like the outcome, I'll vacation elsewhere. (and enrich someone else's coffers). Those that are savvy enough to know me as a customer will see me remain a customer. Rule #1. Don't annoy the customer. Surveys and voting are both flawed because everyone's opinion has equal weight. I have only voted once because I don't think my vote should be counted the same as others. I also want the 22nd amendment repealed. Regarding surveys, I only fill them out when I want to get extra praise for a staff member from higher ups. I don't usually bother for McDonalds or whatever though some of my friends at work do because they come with discounts. That is sort of like being paid i guess. asalligo Posted April 11, 2018 #39 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I just booked my first RC cruise and shows are one of the reasons. In my last four cruises with Carnival, I have seen the same shows, just different people doing them.
ja_martin Posted April 11, 2018 #40 Share Posted April 11, 2018 With regard to Playlist Productions, I've seen both good and not-so-good. Most recently we were on The Freedom. I can honestly say that I've never watched a more entertaining, fun, talented cast. I loved every aspect of every production that they put on. There is no doubt in my mind that the lead singers, Jackie, Reiss, Kimberly and Vicky, could go on to bigger and better, if they so chose. On top of that, the choreography was the best I've seen on a Carnival ship. Last year on The Breeze, and prior cruises on The Triumph, Splendor and The Elation, regardless of whether they were Playlist or not, the level of talent was not nearly as good, nor were the productions as enjoyable as what we experienced on The Freedom. That being said, I would not pay for evening entertainment unless it was truly a must-see production put on by Broadway-level cast.
AD5ZA Posted April 11, 2018 #41 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Having seen numerous broadway productions, I can truly say that there were very few that I really enjoyed. I would not pay for same on a cruise much less an inferior product. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare BlerkOne Posted April 11, 2018 #42 Share Posted April 11, 2018 No. I expect them to pay attention on the ship. If they paid attention, they would see their faults and adjust accordingly. Surveys are about management not knowing what they are doing and asking the customer to find the answers for them. Surveys are about customer perceptions which may or may not have anything to do with reality. The customer is not always right.
NavarreCruiser Posted April 11, 2018 #43 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Since the shows still seem to be well attended, not sure why some think Carnival would change. Even see where some think Carnival is going to have to go to a reservation system. Two other things that they asked that I forgot was:1. Would you like to see a two hour licensed Broadway Production? 2. Would you like to see a twenty minute licensed Broadway Production? They gave probably ten different choices of the productions to choose from. I only recognized Mama Mia, Little Shop of Horrors and Jersey Boys. We saw Mama Mia when it was in Toronto and it was well worth it. If they were popular shows, I think it would probably go over well, depending on how much they charge for it. (Which I'm sure they will if they do implement it.) On the larger newer RCCL ships they do full-length Broadway shows. I have attended Grease, Mama Mia, Saturday Night Fever, and Cats while on those ships. The productions were generally well done with talented cast members. Many had British West End and/or Broadway/Off-Broadway experience. I and many others are not big fans of Cats. And the lead actor-singer on Saturday Night Fever was less talented than his backup singers. I am sure Carnival is just testing the waters to see if doing something that their largest competitor is already doing would be worthwhile. On RCCL these shows are quite expensive to produce and generally stay on a ship for 5 or more years. The cast turns over regularly but the show stays. Surveys are about management not knowing what they are doing and asking the customer to find the answers for them. The survey the OP received is a market research study. It allows companies a way to find out what may or may not be worth investing in without actually having to spend a lot of capital and resources. To produce and license broadway shows aboard multiple ships would cost a lot of money. They want to have a very good idea if their customers are even interested before they take something like this on. It doesn't have anything to do with management not knowing what they're doing. Sebleo Posted April 12, 2018 #47 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Obviously, they are researching their entertainment, and seeing what the market wants. I personally have no interest in these shows. However, I really want them to beef them up so it will hopefully pull people from the Punchliner. My sentiments exactly!

It is good that they realize this. Carnival's view on entertainment is ship wide as compared to theater only. Many more types of entertainment. The survey is from a marketing company. Other than the enhancing they are doing to the main shows (live band members), there is not anything changing. You will not be seeing off Broadway talent doing hairspray on a Carnival ship anytime soon.....
