Considering a RC cruise, what are some of the extra costs?

Recommended Posts

I am sorry I searched and could not find the answer to the question.

On RC website they show the cost of the things below are Not included in the cost of the cruise:

Dance lessons

Learn a language,

Cooking demo

Jewelry making

Scrapbooking

Folding artistry

Can anyone give me an idea of the cost of some of these activities?? I am looking at the Jewel of the seas :)

Thank yoU!

I have taken a few scrapbooking classes they usually have a free one and then you can buy their kit IF you want. My husband has done a couple cooking classes and they vary in price but I think start around $40. We haven't done any of the others. We have seen free dance demos and free folding demos.

Napkin and towel folding demonstrations/lessons are free.

Dance lessons are free in a group setting. I have no idea if anyone gives private lessons.

Learning a language? Really?

According to my beading friends, the kits are no longer free.

The Jewel has some restaurants that cost extra.

Obviously gratuities, alcoholic beverages, shore excursions, casino gambling, art auctions all cost extra.

I’ve always found that I spend the most additional money off the cruise. While there are quite a few things on board that you can spend extra money on, they’re all obvious and none necessary enough that you would get on your ship and suddenly be smacked with fees and costs that you didn’t plan for and can’t avoid (other than gratuities which are charged automatically).

The stuff that will cost you that is harder to avoid is the cab fare to get to all the beaches, which can add up depending on how many people are in your family because it usually costs about $14 round trip per person, (before tip) on most islands. That’s $28-$56 per island just to get to a beach (2 people-4 people). Then there’s the cost of loungers and umbrellas (if you use those), which can range from $10-20 per 2 people. On a port intensive cruise that can add up quickly, especially if you stay long enough to need food, or if you want to buy a souvenir or go on an excursion (snorkeling can cost $30-$80/person for example).

Pre-cruise stuff is also expensive. Staying in a hotel and airfare, plus food and transportation, usually costs me as much as (or sometimes more) than the cruise itself.

So, while there are extra costs on board, they are avoidable. Not so much off the ship.

Thanks, I am traveling solo so do not need to concern myself really about any of the things you said. I do not do beaches, etc... Just want to know how much dancing lessons, etc cost. I do like to dance :)

Bottom line is. You can get by with no extra costs if you pre-pay your gratuities. And do not do any extra cost things.

What will be available on YOUR cruise, extra cost and free, will be listed day by day in the Cruise Compass. Just don't do anything that will cost extra.

Off the ship, if you just walk around and not buy things, can go back to the ship to eat, again, no extra costs.
