Room service service charge

Off the Grand Princess few weeks ago, agree no charge for reg room service items. Don’t blame them for delivery charge on Pizza. One problem I see on all lines is folks waste lot of food, and it ends yup thrown out. Cruise fares would level out I bet if folks take from buffet or order that they think here going to eat. Cost is cost and affect bottom line.

If you saw what is thrown away by Princess every night at the buffet line, it would make you sick.

Stick around till closing time & ask them sometime.

This was also on Royal in December.

Posters here didn't seem to believe me that there were room services items with charges.

I was on the Royal for TA, ordered Room Service every day for both breakfast and lunch no charge all, charges are for things they have always charged for i.e., liquor and snacks to go with it...

There were no previous charges for snacks.

Previously, only an entire pizza (and drink orders) had a charge.

Make em all pay for everything.

I'm subsidizing all the people who abuse room service and we have never used it one time.

Unless a person is in a handicapped room there's no reason that they can't get up & get there own food & drink.

Thank you for the intention. There are mobility challenged people who do not require an HA room, but I do understand the thought. And as one with a family member who does require an HA room, you can appreciate that she'd sometimes rather choose her own food from the room service menu rather than asking me to make a run to the buffet line for her.

Fortunately you don’t get to decide the reasons that are acceptable for accessing room service. In fact, I suspect there are many really good reasons other than being in a handicapped room for people taking advantage of the room service option. I just don’t think it is any of my business. I have never thought I was subsidizing people who take advantage of free services that I don’t access.

Laziness comes to mind. :D

The only place that I can cite where people who use it are subsidizing those who don't is the casino. And even there, use of the casino can result in some unbelievable cruise fares--far lower than anything I've ever been able to book.

The converse--subsidizing if you don't use something--could be argued all over the ship on most lines. A prime example is the kid programming. Most families who use that space and program are paying the 3rd person rate for the kids, that rate likely doesn't cover the cost of running the program. If you want to carry this to the extreme, they could charge for admission to the theatre so those who don't enjoy the production shows on Princess do not have to subsidize those who do. The list could go on and on. And frankly, if I had to pay on a "pay as you use" system for everything on board, it is possible that I wouldn't cruise. I like the "almost all inclusive" on a cruise ship. Yes, I could happily live without room service, without a kid program, and without a casino. But I happen to like the pools, some of the entertainment, the fitness center, etc.

We are all paying extra for the extra security people required at embarkation to search your luggage and confiscate the gallons of booze that you insist on smuggling on board.

We are all paying extra gratuities for helpful crew members because you insist that the automatic gratuities be removed from your account, as you do not believe in tipping and refuse to do so.

We are all paying extra for the crew members who need to track you down and ask you to attend muster drill because you refuse to attend muster drill.

Do you REALLY want to provoke a big smackdown about room service ?? YOU are costing the cruise lines and other passengers much more than they are costing you.

A kid program is the one most important free thing on the ship !

Just think about all those darlings running around all day looking for something to do. LOL :D

I would think you would be upset by this.

Why should some pay for the services used by others?

If all passengers were not subsidising on-board day care, and the actual users had to pay the full price,

there would probably be far fewer kids on board.

Not me. I abide by the rules and never have been caught smuggling anything. :D

Not me. I tip extra to those that deserve it most.

Miss a drill? Not me. I've been to each & every one.

Hardly. With all the business I give them I deserve extra attention. :D

You know, you're absolutely correct now that you mention it.

Lets get rid of the kids center or make them pay by the hour. ;p

make the Princess Theatre a PPV venue - never have to wait for a show again...

fitness center - also pay per usage - is your gym free?

just kidding - but, who wants to go there

All kidding aside, it won't be long before you see first run movies on your cabin TV - for a hefty price I might add. The new system is on a lot of ships & more are being added every year.

the last 1st run movies we've seen in a theatre are - in no particular order...

Cars

Frozen

Tangled

so no as far as paying in the room - just not that important to us - especially on a cruise...we use the room for sleeping, showering...not as an entertainment center

but people who do multiple cruises a year, sure, why not?

hang your checked breakfast menu on your door the night before...no charge for most items including coffee which is almost undrinkable and we stopped ordering it...

We get room service every morning! My favorite indulgence of cruising. But always Oder tea along with coffee...water used to delete the horrible coffee!!

Good Lord.......

Tell me you aren't serious....If you are, I truly feel sorry for you. Princess should change their motto, right? Instead of "Come back new" they should change it to "Come back pissed off"....

Geez Louise...You MUST be a shareholder.... :D

Indeed. I paid a hefty price for my trip. They offer room service and I intend to take full advantage of it. People (well, this individual) don't like it - Pfffttt...There's a place they can go to call someone who cares. :D

They should go back to "Escape completely", which is what passengers will want to do.

I prefer using the stairs to taking an elevator. I should not have to subsidize those who use the elevators.
