Flights departing New York cruise terminal

We are getting of The Escape Sunday February 24th. Will we be able to make a 10:50 flight home out of Newark?

I wouldn't book it, unless you're willing to be one of the first on line to do the self walk off and have a car waiting to pick you up. Even then you might not make it. If the ship's a little late, if CBP takes it sweet old time clearing it for disembarkation, if there aren't enough CBP officers working that day, if you run into traffic on the way to the airport...you could miss your flight. I wouldn't book a flight earlier than about noon, and even then you want to be off the ship early.

I wouldn’t!! It won’t take long to get to the airport on a Sunday but that cruise will be very crowded on vacation week and the lines to get off the ship will be VERY long.

Newark Airport is very busy on the weekends. Even with a short ride to the airport, the TSA lines may be long.

Realize that to get to any of the three airports serving NYC one has to cross or go under water to get to the airport.

The least screw up in traffic on a bridge or thru a tunnel can be the difference of making a flight timely or

hassling to get on the next one.

And then there are the airline rules of timely check-in for your baggage; clearing the TSA gauntlet and arriving

at the gate before your seats are given away in a standby lottery.

 

So if you are going to attempt this - the following is suggested - no make a firm requirement !

 

First thing get that prime early walk-off with luggage

Haul your self thru the CBI check point ASAP

Don't have anything to declare

Don't fret argue barter the cost of transportation to the airport

Don't have any riders going to another airline first in the cab with you

 

Use all the frequent flyer affinity loyalty programs to check-in promptly for your flight

Some allow you to check-in 24 hours in advance and get boarding documents

Have TSA Pre-CK Global Entry whatever to get you rapidly through the TSA gauntlet

Show up at your airline gate to board when you que is called.

 

Now if there is any free time and have club privileges use it -

Grab a cup of coffee or other drink to calm the nerves -

 

Well did you make it with time to spare ?

Are you still in a sweat a nervous wreck - never going to do this again ?

Read the disembarkation mess yesterday about the Gem and this morning for the Escape ... both ships arrived (very) early and docked ahead of schedule, on-time.

 

You need to feel super, super lucky and willing to bet against the odds ... in short, DON'T even think about it. Book something after 1 PM or 2 PM to play it safe.

 

If you are flying First Class out of EWR, check with your airline about a complimentary helicopter transfer from nearby heliport on the Hudson & whether they fly in adverse weather, short of blizzard & massive winter storm conditions - most likely not, as flights would likely be cancelled and/or hit by FAA ground stops. Pack lightly for that 5 minutes flying time ... in excess of free luggage allowance.

No, I would not risk that early a flight, at any of the 3 NY area airports. Why end your vacation stressing about making your flight? Take a later flight, and finish your vacation as relaxed as when you were on the ship.

Stuff happens, we were on a cruise that ended at the Redhook, Brooklyn Terminal and the ship managed to crash into and disable the gangplank, we had to wait several hours to disembark. People were frantically trying to change their flight reservations. Luckily being from NJ we just had to go back to Newark Liberty to retrieve our car (it was a repositioning cruise and we flew out of Newark).

I live in the area, nope. I’ve gotten home as early as 8:15 and as late as 12, doing early walk off.
