Atlantis Aquarium in Nassau Questions

Recommended Posts

One of the ports on our cruise is Nassau. I've been there before and have not been a fan of the island. I always usually either stayed on the ship or got off briefly to walk around the shops.

Hubby and I will be traveling with our two kids (4 yrs. & 15 mo.) as well as my Mother-in-Law. MIL doesn't travel, so I know she will want to get off the ship in his port.

I've searched the excursions available for my sailing and was not impressed with activities for little kids, especially my 15 month old. I've heard the Aquarium at Atlantis is pretty cool (and air conditioned). But, this isn't an excursion offered by RCL.

Has anyone gone to the Atlantis Aquarium and bought their own tickets? If so, how do you go about doing this?

Is there a water ferry that can take you to Atlantis? I really don't want to lug my kids' carseats onboard for a taxi ride in 1 port.

Last year we did an excursion to the Aquarium and found it enjoyable. It was offered by RCCL (we are of the belief that we would rather pay a little more to know that if something happened the ship won't leave).

The guided tour left time at the end for us to go back and to re-explore the areas that we wanted to see again and then take our time going back.

For the life of me I can't remember what the cost was.

My cruise that is leaving in 8 days doesn't have any excursions that I want to go on with RCI so I have booked mine through independent tour operators. I usually google things to do in ???? in this case Nassau. I check out trip advisor and viatour. My cruise agent also has a link to some they have connections with. I don't worry about not getting back because if I don't I will post on their website and they will be out of business pretty quick with me and others complaining so I have had good luck with these excursions. Once I find something I am interested in I usually go to the website that has what I want to do and see what they have on the particular excursion I want to do such as cost and transportation and I figure out which way I want to go.

Skip the water taxi, it is a PIA. About $7.00 total for a taxi. Get dropped off at the Hotel lobby, walk straight to the rear of the lobby take the stairs down 1 level and you will be at the ticket office. You can also enter the lobby, go left down a long hallway of shops, through the casino and you will find a cafe that looks into a aquarium. happy cruising

The water taxi ($8 per person) is fine if you are going to the ferry terminal to board the cat to Blue Lagoon Island, but not to get to Atlantis with 2 small children. From the ferry terminal it is a 10-15 minute walk for adults alone to the main lobby where you can buy your aquarium tickets for about $38/ adult, $29/ child 2-11, and toddlers and younger free. The better bet is a land taxi at $5 per seat used (lap children no charge) which will take you from the gate at the port to the lobby door. Don't worry about the car seats, the taxi would not have the correct straps to hook up a safety seats that meet American or Canadian laws.

We also did the discover Atlantis tour. It was through R.C., hopped on the shuttle to Atlantis, (they drive a little crazy there) then met a guide who walked a small group through the aquarium level, gave us some history about "Atlantis" and then gave us a walk through of the casino. Keep in mind the aquarium is not that big.We then had free time to walk around and hop on the shuttle back to the ship. shuttle runs every 30 minutes or so. You can stay as long as you like. Not a bad deal I thought.

While some of the tanks are pretty big you will be very disappointed after paying the Atlantis aquarium prices. You have a world-class aquarium in Baltimore. Atlantis isn't. Nice, but maybe 1/4 size of yours.

The kids area in the Aquapark is pretty good, but price is even worse. Your kids could go on some tiny slides nearby as well as the play area and pools.

We wouldn't go over there for the aquarium but have taken a 4 year old to the Aquapark. But we had 5 adults splitting up the kid watching and hadn't been to a water park in years.
