Princess@sea and Liquor question

Hi.

We are embarking on our 1st Princess cruise Friday!! Yay!

Just received the "Final Info..." email.

Couple of questions please...

1. Does the Princess@sea app/page work if you do not sign up for onboard internet?? Is it useful?

2. The email states liquor brought onboard will be discarded but am I correct to assume that souvenir bottles of liquor purchased in ports will be held for you until the last night like other lines?

Thanks in advance.

Cathy

1.Yes, the app works without signing up for internet. We found it useful...maps, Patters, sales, etc. all right on your phone.

2. If you buy bottles of liquor in port, they will have a table set up as you come back through security from port, to hand in your liquor and they will hold it until the last day/night of the cruise when it will be delivered to your cabin.

The onboard website is free since it only uses the ship's intranet and not the internet. Once on board with the smart phone in airplane mode and the network enabled, one just opens a window and the ship website will appear. I have found it quite useful for many things including ordering breakfast for in the stateroom instead of the hangtag, booking FCDs and even messaging other pax although no indication that a message has arrived.

I did not realize there were so many Barbados rum lovers. We always buy a bottle when in Barbados and bring it back on the ship. Sometimes they have a liquor table and sometimes not so we just take it to our stateroom.

Although I've never had any problem bypassing the "liquor check-in table", if you make your liquor purchases as early as possible & return to the ship with your bottles early in the morning they usually don't have the check-in table set up yet.

They usually wait till late morning when people begin to return back to the ship.

Curious as to whether the security folks scanning your belongings, tip off the guys at the check in table?

And do they allow you to take any wine purchases to your cabin? They used to, but wonder if they allow it now.

I've read that people were escorted to the check in table but I've never seen it.

And do they allow you to take any wine purchases to your cabin? They used to, but wonder if they allow it now.

I've also read they they do allow wine to be taken to the cabin but I've never bought wine except from home.

It's either liquor or beer in my beach bag.

That is a nice tip, about leaving the ship right away, visiting the nearby wine and liquor store, and running it back onboard while the focus is still on everyone disembarking.

The only wine we will bring will be what will be allowed, our favorites from our local wineries and spirits store.

But, if we decide to buy some rum, some of which we might want to enjoy onboard or on a day ashore... That would work well.

Little confused....we used to be able to buy local wines and take them to our cabin....which we would bring to dinner and pay the $15 corkage on. Wondering if we can still do that at each port?

As far as liquor, you can bring on as much as you want at each port but you have to check it in at the table and you can't bring it to your cabin.
