pcs15 Posted January 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2006 We haven't been on a HAL cruise for 2 years, but the last time I got some great tips from this forum on food items to try. I was a little more adventuresome and tried some excellent items based on recommendations from this board. I'd love a repeat of current favorites! We loved the bread pudding, meusli, chocolate croissants.... mmmm.... my mouth is watering! Thanks in advance! Pat
willowoodf Posted January 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2006 This is kind of funny, but I just LOVE their parmesian crusted chicken breast! Last time on board 2 of us split 3 entrees of it! My mouth is watering just thinking of it.... Mary
kakalina Posted January 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2006 The beef wellington is a must. The chocolate souffle with Grand Marnier sauce is to die for:D

localady Posted January 4, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2006 I just love their bread pudding and vanilla sauce that is served in the Lido at lunch each day. I also really enjoy the days they prepare chinese or indonesian food at the cooked to order area of the Lido.
rubrrick Posted January 4, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2006 We were aboard the Westerdam with Jeff and Mary, and I have to say that the first night out, I tried the Prime Rib................and I must say that it probably was the BEST beef that I have tasted in a long time! Rare LAFFNVEGAS Posted January 4, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 4, 2006 This is kind of funny, but I just LOVE their parmesian crusted chicken breast! Last time on board 2 of us split 3 entrees of it! My mouth is watering just thinking of it.... Mary Mary, that is definitely one of my favorites too. It is always offered the last night of a 7 night cruise. It always seems I have eaten quite a bit of beef during the week so this is a great change by the end of the week.:)
Sheebah Posted January 4, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 4, 2006 If you dine in Pinnacle I recommend the Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia Baked alaska and the clam chowder. Top notch!
jhannah Posted January 4, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 4, 2006 My vote has to go with the Prime Rib in the main dining room, and either the fillet or porterhouse in the Pinnacle.

RuthC Posted January 4, 2006 #15 Share Posted January 4, 2006 Not fair, Roz. I just finished a much too small lunch. O.K. this diner recommends the chilled soups. It's like having dessert before dinner---when you still have room! :D Now, if you want to talk about the chocolate desserts...;)
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 4, 2006 #16 Share Posted January 4, 2006 I just wish that HAL would get the receipe for Chocolate Soup - have had it several times when we stayed at the Hershey Hotel.
richcrow Posted January 4, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 4, 2006 I have to say that the bone-in ribeye in the Pinnacle Grill is by far the best steak that i have ever had. Richard
LolaWiz Posted January 4, 2006 #18 Share Posted January 4, 2006 suprisingly, my husband and i became VERY addicted to the "junky" nachos at the pool snack bar. :D on sea days, we would have an early small breakfast, nice lunch and since we did not eat til 830, we needed a mid-afternoon snack, those nachos were quite tasty loaded with fake cheddar cheese, sour cream, guacamole, onions, refried beans, peppers, tomatoes. We enjoyed them as we played ping pong :p also, all the sides at the Pinnicle were amazing with the best filet i ever had!
Rare Roz Posted January 4, 2006 #19 Share Posted January 4, 2006 Ruth, I don't care for the chilled soups...they remind me of melted ice cream. The white chocolate chef's hat filled with chocolate mousse was a new one for me...to die for. Lola, I liked those cheeseburgers from the grill. Several times I'd make a salad from the salad bar and then go out and grab a cheeseburger, and that was lunch. Roz
Robin7 Posted January 4, 2006 #20 Share Posted January 4, 2006 The white chocolate chef's hat filled with chocolate mousse was a new one for me...to die for. That WAS so good. But my vote goes to the cream of mushroom soup. I could eat buckets of that. Robin
Rare Roz Posted January 4, 2006 #21 Share Posted January 4, 2006 I agree, Robin, and forgot to put it on my (extensive) list. It must be the type(s) of mushrooms they use, but it's excellent. Roz
obriendan Posted January 4, 2006 #22 Share Posted January 4, 2006 My wife particularly, and even I now, like the escargot. On our last cruise on the Maasdam, we found the beef, especially the prime rib, to be the best we've ever had on HAL.
Rare Roz Posted January 4, 2006 #23 Share Posted January 4, 2006 I've never tried escargot, even though I consider myself to be an adventurous eater. I live in the South, and those things look way too much like the slugs that infest my garden in the summer and crawl up the doors and windows. Roz
Rare LAFFNVEGAS Posted January 4, 2006 #24 Share Posted January 4, 2006 I just thought of another one of my absolute favorite dishes this is an Appetizer. Hazelnut Crusted Brie:p How I Love that stuff.
bepsf Posted January 5, 2006 #25 Share Posted January 5, 2006 I too love the Escargot and Caviar... Also enjoy the Thai Beef Salad served in Pinnacle for luncheon and pretty much whatever they're serving from the stir-fry station in the Lido. Oh yeah, those Lamb Shanks are to die for! :D
