Rare JamieLogical Posted August 24, 2018 #676 Share Posted August 24, 2018 I am in a spa balcony on 9-23 Breakaway and have not received offer to bid. The new spa balcony and spa mini-suite categories were not showing up for me yesterday for my October Escape sailing, even after some other people said they were seeing them for their sailings. Today I logged in and they are now showing up. So definitely log into My NCL, and click through the banners on the main page if the "Let's Get You Upgraded" isn't the first one you see. There should be little arrows to the left and right on the full desktop view of the page.
MaryZ Posted August 24, 2018 #677 Share Posted August 24, 2018 Are you on the Epic TA out of Barcelona? Because I did the same thing because the 2 bedroom Haven is the only one that’s not Sold Out. No, we are on the Breakaway. I am going to pull my 2 bedroom bid down. We have no need for that cabin and it's just a waste of money. We spend most of our time on a TA in the casino. I can live without the almond croissants for the duration of the TA...well not really but I'll make the best of it....lol
RaiderDuck Posted August 24, 2018 #678 Share Posted August 24, 2018 Just put in a "Strong" bid on the scale for an upgrade from a window cabin to a mini-suite. Wish us luck!

With a "strong" bid, is it still significantly cheaper than just paying the difference for a direct upgrade?
RaiderDuck Posted August 24, 2018 #680 Share Posted August 24, 2018 With a "strong" bid, is it still significantly cheaper than just paying the difference for a direct upgrade? Yes. The difference when we booked would have been at least three times our current offer.

Lookn4Sun Posted August 25, 2018 #683 Share Posted August 25, 2018 I got a bid for the 4 nov TA but you bid for 2. I am a solo cruiser so it never pays to bid. Please help me understand this. Wouldn't this depend on the category you are in and what you paid? As I understand it, if I bid, it's always going to double (so even if I'm solo, if I bid $ they will charge me $$). Is that right? I booked super early, and got a great rate for an inside cabin. I've been keeping an eye on pricing and availability for my cruise (and will continue to do so), I know what the prices were for a balcony when I booked, and I check in on this board to see what people have been bidding and what's been accepted to get some very general ideas (as each situation is different). Knowing these things, I'll see if I get the offer; if I do I'll offer what I'm comfortable with based on all the info I have, and see how it goes. If I get it, great; if I don't it's okay. Why wouldn't it pay for a solo cruiser to bid?

It can certainly pay to bid so long as you are comfortable knowing that you will pay double. It could still work out in your favor versus a direct upgrade. If the doubling the minimum bid seems too high for you as a solo, then it would not pay to bid as a solo.

purplethorn Posted August 26, 2018 #687 Share Posted August 26, 2018 First I want to apologize for not going through the almost 6000 posts (both threads combined) , but ... new to NCL even newer to bidding. We will be sailing on Labor day cruise on the Sun to the Bahamas. We got an email invitation for bidding on mini suite and a balcony (currently we have an ocean view porthole). The starting bid was 50$ and 75$ .... I put 100$ for each as a starting bid. Is this overkill for this ship and duration of the cruise? Or is this too little. I am not sure if we want it or not .. its not the money its the location of the suite i am worried about. What if i win the bid and get assigned a room i do not like. Can i go back to the oceanview suite originally reserved? Thanks!

sirenitas Posted August 26, 2018 #690 Share Posted August 26, 2018 There are 3 of us, DD sails free. I understand bids are per person - but are they per paying person or do 3rd/4th free passengers also count?

Only catch is if you bid up to a suite category, your service charge would be increased for her also. Sent from my iPad using Forums

If location is important to you and you really like your current location, think carefully. They could assign you any cabin and you cannot move back, as they’d have assigned your old cabin to somebody else (likely somebody from an inside you bid on ocean view). So, look at deck plans to see if there are balconies or minisuites you make you unhappy and if if so what %. Then decide if it is worth the gamble or not. I really enjoy having a balcony, so I’d likely bid something on the upgrades, even though I would not know the cabin location until the end. If you decide you do not wish to take the risk, remove your bids promptly; you can only cancel before NCL accepts the bid. If you do decide you want to bid, the amount is up to you. I believe yours is a five day cruise. Suites seem to be sold out and only balcony gty are showing on site I checked, so probably not many balcony cabins left. To me that suggests that a weak bid may not win, but that’s no reason to bid more than it is worth to you. Nobody else knows what it is worth to you. Actually there were no balconies, suites or even picture windows available when I was booking last week (sailing this week). Four day cruise. So the upgrade offer is very strange to me ... unless there have been cancellations between yesterday (when i got the email) and Thursday when i booked Or does NCL actually reserve some rooms just for the bidding option? Sent from my iPhone using Forums i doubt they hold open rooms just for bidding if they can sell them at desired price. NCL could take bids even if no cabins are currently available. With active bids, should somebody cancel, NCL can quickly refill that space for maximum profit. If no space opens up, NCL has a bit more data on what people are willing to pay. No matter the outcome of the bidding, have a wonderful time.
