Just wondering if this could impact your chances of winning a bid since it's a few hundred dollars less in their pockets. Yes, twice. NCL insurance does not factor in at all, as other people have stated. I always do independent travel insurance, not the cruise line insurance.

Is that true? Not Mike, but to answer your question, yes. A balcony stateroom can bid on ANY type of suite/Haven accommodation. But realize that half the ship will NOT be bidding on it, because the bid amount would have to be substantial for a balcony, based on the price paid. I get balconies and bid on Haven accommodations, but don't bid on the huge suites or villas. They are 1) bigger than what I need and 2) cost prohibitive to bid on. I probably won’t t get it but figured it might be now or never lol. Right now there are no 3 bed GV available, so it would only be on the minute chance someone cancels at last minute i suppose? Yes, although you may see varying opinions, I believe they DO factor in the TOTAL cost...and if you have paid $14,000 already, I definitely believe your bid will have a MUCH better chance than someone who has paid $2600 for a balcony and bids the same amount that you do. As for the availability for a 3BR Garden Villa...not very likely that there will be a last minute cancellation on one of those, since there are only two, but you never know. Certainly worth a bid just in case if you would like to give it a shot. They are AMAZING...did one on the Dawn 8 years ago...and it was definitely worth it. This was long before the upgrade program. Good luck!

Good luck! Per Jaime logical....she says what you previously paid means 0....cause NCL already has that money. It's where your coming from aka balcony or H9 spa suite and their potential resale values and how much you bid. Therefore, in essence what you previously paid does come in because you already paid more for H9 then a balcony. However the way I understand it someone who paid 289 pp on a casino room (balcony) and someone who paid 1199 pp on a balcony and the casino bid 1000pp on the Haven or Suites and the straight up balcony person bid 850 pp the casino person would still win cause 1. Their room has same value for resale and 2. Their bid is more. The casino person still wins even though their gross total paid is less.......they paid 289 pp (600 for better math) for their balcony room and there 1100pp bid (2200) is a total of 2800 for the upgrade .. And the reg balcony person paid 1199 pp at 2400 total and 850 pp at 1700 total for a grand total of 4100 .... so 4100 2800 is less the 4100 but the 2800 still wins cause the room is same resale and the casino person bid more.. Weird but true

Right, but to follow that logic...Haven rooms can easily be filled with bidders who are likely making high bids...so someone already IN a Haven room HAS a room with a high potential resale value. And thus, those already in the Haven probably do have a better shot at a higher Haven category than those coming straight from a balcony.

Yes, Havne bidders have a better chance of winning bids for higher Haven categories than balconies, but not because of what they originally paid. The have a better chance because their current room has higher VALUE to other bidders. NCL is going to accept the bids that net them the most money. So if someone is willing to pay $1200 to upgrade into my current Haven and someone is only willing to pay $250 to upgrade into a balcony, then I have a better chance of winning my bid on the same Haven category as the balcony bidder. What is MUCH more likely to happen is that balcony bidder is going to be upgraded to a mini-suite, the mini-suite bidder is going to be upgraded to a lower Haven category, that lower Haven category bidder is going to be upgraded into a higher Haven category, because that whole chain of upgrades nets NCL way more money than just upgrading someone from a balcony into a high level Haven category. tallnthensome Posted March 24, 2019 #2735 Share Posted March 24, 2019 I wonder if anyone knows this answer. If you are sailing with two kids, and you're staying in a FAMILY inside cabin does it matter or come into consideration when bidding on FAMILY ocean views or FAMILY balcony upgrades? I guess what I'm asking is if there is any priority for families to upgrade when trying to move up in FAMILY cabins? Is this possible or do they take bids for two people in cabins and move them into family cabins if their bids are higher? Are families given any advantage in bidding on other family cabins due to occupancy or is a free for all no matter the number of guests trying to win an upgrade? They are looking for profit margin. I don’t think number of people or if they are family members matters, other than the fact that certain cabins are not available for more than three people. After doing this site for over a year and talking to people and following the prices on the mock sites.. I'm seeing that the Aft Haven is requiring #s like 1500 plus pp to win. They are sought after. Big time. So if you have your heart set on that beef up the bids. Even on mock sites the H6 is the price that stays very steady. They know people want that so advice 1500 plus. I bid like 1400 and lost and have seen plenty of losing bids on H6 in that area. Next time 1515 pp. In the March to May area..maybe not needed in Nov

This may seem a bit weird but, can you narrow down the time of day when the change happened? I'm on the April 7 Pearl cruise and I've noticed that prices dropped for the suites on each of the last five Mondays between 11:00 and noon EST. I'm just wondering if they run some batch jobs at that time of day (not necessarily on Mondays).
itsbaker Posted March 26, 2019 #2750 Share Posted March 26, 2019 I've been out of the loop and just learning about this upgrade "auction." We are booked in a Balcony Spa (B9). I got the message about the upgrade bids and every Haven class is listed, but the NCL website when booking says Haven is sold out. I'm assuming that this is just a form for every cruise. This is probably a stupid question, but does anyone think it would still be possible to get a Haven Spa room upgrade if they are listed as sold out on the website?
