juliesVacation Posted July 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2018 Is it really that hit or miss with being able to tender in to CocoCay? We're heading there next week and I was looking forward to finally seeing it for the first time. Is the iffy weather more an issue in the fall when hurricane season ramps up? TBone2K Posted July 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2018 ...Is the iffy weather more an issue in the fall when hurricane season ramps up? I would say yes. Personally, we never had a problem with stopping at Coco Cay. Not even a mention that we might have to skip it. Then the last two chances, we missed in due to wind conditions. Once the ship hung around to see if conditions would change, the other time we sailed right on by and went for extended time at Nassau.

Beachin2 Posted July 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2018 Been by there several times, have only seen it in the distance. Always too windy or rough to tender. You sure it really exists?

fred30 Posted July 12, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2018 The inlet that the tenders have to go through is a small cove right in the shoreline so it doesn't take a lot of wind and heavy waves to make it too difficult to navigate. Once the piers that issue will go away.

Pellaz Posted July 12, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2018 There are several reports elsewhere on the Royal board where CocoCay is being missed due to construction...so even if the weather is fine, you might still miss the stop. :o
ONECRUISER Posted July 12, 2018 #12 Share Posted July 12, 2018 Over last 20+ yrs I've missed Coco Cay about 40% of the time equally due to Hurricane Season and winter winds/waves...Royal has also been overly cautious for good reason, ever since time they couldn't Tender all the passengers back on the ship. Think over nite on a tropical island sleeping on Beach chairs, in the middle of your cruise...
cb at sea Posted July 12, 2018 #13 Share Posted July 12, 2018 "Hurricane season" simply means the oceans are warm enough for storms to form. If there isn't one in YOUR vicinity, nothing is different from any other time. Strong winds can cause a ship not to tender, as can tides running too high or low. Hurricanes are not the only reason tendering is cancelled.
Mikew0805 Posted July 13, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 13, 2018 I have sailed to Coco 5 times total, and the only time we didn't make it was on the Enchantment in April 2016.
