taglovestocruise Posted August 27, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 27, 2018 Worse than Cats? Should I skip it this week? The only show we have walked out on was cats.

CruiseLover15 Posted August 27, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 27, 2018 I have done all 3 but I prefer the Harmony but not due to the slide. I prefer the Harmony because it is newer and the decor is so much better than the Oasis and Allure. The Harmony is my favorite ship so far. I prefer the Harmony because it is newer and the decor is so much better than the Oasis and Allure. The Harmony is my favorite ship so far. Interesting. Considering that they went cheap on Harmony. It's not as nice as Oasis in a lot of areas. The staterooms are a bit nicer on Harmony but otherwise it was a clear step down. No solarium pool, plastic faded broken roof panels, no water features, etc. They definitely cost cut like crazy on Harmony and it shows.

FloridaPalms Posted August 27, 2018 #31 Share Posted August 27, 2018 I’ve sailed Oasis, Harmony and Allure. While I prefer the modern cabin furniture of Harmony, its public spaces comes in 3rd place IMHO. No pool in the Solarium, Abyss slide blocks and closes in Boardwalk views (while offering no repeat thrill to this poster), ugly artwork (particularly 'Head' by Czech artist David Cerny overpowering Royal Promenade), big empty void entering the Boardwalk where the other two have the partially carved beautiful carousel horses, and the wasted space known as Bionic Bar (only time I saw anyone there was during our muster drill). I found all three ships to have fantastic entertainment! I was fortunate that Hairspray, not Cats, was the show when I sailed Oasis. Grease was great on Harmony (as it was when I saw it three weeks later on Indy) but Harmony also has a terrific original musical comedy Columbus the Musical. Allure had a top notch cast performing Mamma Mia! when I sailed last year and I hope the cast on my upcoming Allure cruise can come close to their level. I prefer the current location of the Diamond Lounge on Oasis and Allure, where Wonderland took over on Harmony. Since food is subjective, no comment in that regard. Personally, I would sail again on any of them if the price is right. I’m always on the lookout for a bargain, especially when it comes to cruises. :D ~ Judy

bren61 Posted August 27, 2018 #33 Share Posted August 27, 2018 We walked out on After Midnight, NCL Escape. I might venture to say worse than Cats but that's a stretch. That's disappointing to hear, we love RCL mainly for the entertainment, but are booked on NCL Escape in January for a 14 day cruise. We were on the Breakaway this past February and the entertainment was horrible and was hoping it would be better on the Escape. We only re-booked NCL for the itinerary (which was totally changed on our last Feb cruise due to the hurricanes) we are now going to all of the ports that were re-routed. Rare BillOh Posted August 27, 2018 #34 Share Posted August 27, 2018 I don't want what I would like. I want to hear why YOU like one or the other. Well, I don't travel with kids. After spinal surgery, I'm not sure I will try most of the slides, so I would love any of these ships, I'd go on itinerary, price, and which embarkation point is easiest for me. I don't want to ruin your cruise! You may like After Midnight, it's definitely more active than Cats and I think the general reception for the show is decent. Just no story, no stage props, nothing really more than blues dancing and singing. To me it felt like something I'd expect at a dinner show or casino bar, but on a stage. You may think differently. My wife loves musicals and stuff and even she wanted to leave, so we walked out 30+ minutes in to the show. My wife liked Brat Pack quite a bit. I would also say that Wine Lovers The Musical was really entertaining and a fun lunch, worth the money. They do have Howl at the Moon and some pretty decent live performers around. So overall it wasn't abysmal or anything like that. It's not Carnival bad... lol. But definitely not in the same league as Oasis-class productions. The cost cutting in the public spaces is so very obvious. They do have a couple positives on Harmony like the slides, but also a really awesome splash pad. Including a large splash pad for swim diapered children which doesn't seem to exist on any other ship I've ever seen. But with no kids or interest in slides, it's a bummer. If you have the drink package, the bionic bar can be fun. It's not as glamorous as the champagne bar but I don't think I ever saw anyone in the champagne bar either.... Bionic bar, I don't love it, would prefer something else in it's place, but it's somewhat entertaining. There is no time limit on drinks, so we just kept ordering and ordering and ordering and letting the robot run non stop. Trying everything! Fun afternoon. I'm torn on abyss, I hated it at first, but after riding a couple of times we thought it was pretty neat. At least it gets a few more people on the boardwalk, a little more action, and it wasn't as intrusive as I thought it would be. But I did miss the bar that got moved. It was one of my favorite spots. The solarium on Harmony basically sucked in comparison. The flapping plastic panels, no pool, and I'm almost certain it's missing the water features in front of the solarium bistro, too. Something as simple as the rising tide not having the fountain underneath, you could really feel like you were missing that "wow", over the top factor that Oasis/Allure have with the public spaces. Even our bartender would joke about the quality of Harmony not being as good as Oasis/Allure, and he opened all 3.

Spacecaydet Posted August 28, 2018 #46 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Ok folks, here is your chance. Convince me. Which one do you like the best, Allure, Oasis or Harmony? Why? I am planning a cruise for next year and want some input.:confused: Of those three I've only been on Allure, twice. Love her. Love the staff. She until, 2020, still have Giovanni's (but so does Oasis..for now) which I think was much better than Jamie's which we tried on the Anthem. And don't tell her I said this but she's usually a few hundred dollars cheaper than Harmony. I'm a cheap date too so I'm not judging. We sail as a family and the kids didn't meet the slide height requirements yet, that might be a factor in next years decision for us, maybe for you, maybe not. The only differentiator from the Oasis is that she was more recently refurbed by only a year..... As somebody else said, you can't lose! I love it when life throws you those situations! Spacecaydet Posted August 28, 2018 #47 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Just read some of the other posts. Are you serious, no carved horses? No water features? Does Symphony bring those back!? Somebody say yes!! That's some of what makes the Allure feel like home. They give her the confident character that she flaunts all over the Caribbean (and wherever she goes). I too was once intrigued by the bionic bar but after experiencing those silly robots on Anthem I think Royal can repurpose those across the fleet with something better. In my mind they won't be missed. Cats is a good point which I missed. That's a negatronsky for the Oasis. Mama Mia on the soundtrack alone please. Only having been on the Allure I thoroughly enjoy the small wonders and the art work. From the pictures, yes I 100% agree, overall decor and Cabins go to the newbie sisters in Harmony and Symphony. Plus you can pick up one of those fancy charge your life away bracelets on the Harmony I believe. Can't speak to the solarium as we hardly ever get there (3 kids remember?). But the fine people here seem to love that pool in the Oasis/Allure Solarium and despise the decision to discard it in the Harmony.

rjgdjg Posted August 28, 2018 #49 Share Posted August 28, 2018 We've been on all three and overall, the experience is more or less the same. That being said, of the three, we prefer the Allure for these reasons: * Mamma Mia! * Aqua shows and ice shows are better * Giovanni's is better than Jamie Oliver The stateroom configuration on Harmony is better (e.g., separate closets), but the ship is more high tech and in some ways, a bit austere. And if you don't use the slides, they don't add anything. It all comes down to personal taste, of course. - Musing About Cruising
