Best thing to do in Bora Bora

Lagoon Service Bora Bora. Hands down, one of the best days of our lives. We swam with sharks and so much more with the most amazing guides.

We also jogged to Bloody Mary’s the next day, had a couple of cocktails and took a cab back to the port with friends we met there from the cruise.

It’s pure heaven no matter what you do.

Enjoy!

We have been to Bora Bora three times on cruise ships. At the tender dock there will be companies selling tours. Also to the right will be the taxi line. While it may be a small island we have found that there will be or four taxis ready for fares. The first time we stopped there we did a tour of the island. The other times we took a taxi to the Sofitel Bora Bora and bought day passes. Love the hotel and the food is delicious.

We booked an early morning boat trip including swimming with sharks and stingrays and snorkelling. We booked early in the day which meant another afternoon beach break and snorkel could be fitted in.

On this occasion we booked through Celebrity and as you were straight onto your snorkel boat no large crowds....

You definitely need swimming shoes and although they did provide snorkels we were glad we had our own.

Even if you are not a good swimmer the snorkel trips offer lots for you to see. Other than the Maldives best snorkelling we have ever experienced.

For those who have been to Bora Bora before, what do you consider the best thing to do there ? Also, is it easy to get a cab at the cruise port in order to then get around?

You might toggle down on CC main page and click on Pacific Islands under Port of Call. There is lots of advice there on what to do in Bora Bora.

As an alternate to group charters, one can charter a boat and captain for 3-4 hours for yourself. We chartered a Boston Whaler 19 ft with a 90 HP and snorkled at 3 sites including a giant manta ray site plus did a round trip tour of Bora Bora. I don't recall the charter company name, but you can google or search the Pacific thread for my comments from a couple of years ago. The extra cost is made up travelling 30-40 knots!

While in Bora Bora this past winter (Lima/Papeete on Oceania) we booked with Maohi Nui a day trip by boat which included lunch on a motu. There was a stop to 'swim' with the sting rays, sharks and other fish. (By swim, it's really standing in water chest/neck high and letting the critters swim around you!)

On the motu for lunch was a pig roast, luau style - buried, cooked over hot, hot rocks, along with chicken and fish, as well as salads, fruit and drinks.

After lunch there was entertainment with Patrick, the owner, doing a fire dance, and his daughter, Vaitaire, doing a Polenesian dance similar to the hula.

A most enjoyable day and highly recommended. Check reviews on Trip Advisor.

For this excursion, YOU MUST BOOK EARLY! HIS TOURS FILL UP FAST!!!

I agree. We have been with Patrick 6 times. It is one of our if not the favorite excursion of all times. :)

Patrick

One of the two best guides we’ve had in many places around the world. Morning snorkeling, afternoon touring in his 4X4

If he’s available get group of 8 together and go.

Mahoi Nui known as Patrick’s Tour is the main reason to book the Sydney to Honolulu repo on the Solstice. Someone on our Roll Call (thank you, Sharon!) organized a very large group of us, Patrick got extra boats and we had a wonderful experience. That tour is the highlight of all of our 25 cruises. We booked this tour over a year before we sailed
