gplewis1324 Posted January 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2006 Taking a cruise from Rio to Santiago(Valpairiso), Chile in a few weeks on HAL & wondered if anyone had suggestions for excursions that one "must" take. Thanks
vjblk Posted January 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2006 Have you checked out the ports of call section of these boards? I have always found good advice in those forums. Sorry I can't help with any specifics but maybe someday. Sounds like you are going a great cruise!
dileep Posted January 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2006 This is the Ports of Call section. Try the Roll Call for your cruise. There are reports from previous cruisers in this section too. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=141730
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 12, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2006 Are you stopping in Punta Arenas? If so, an excursion which takes you to see the Penguins would be great. What ports are you visiting? Keith

Splinter Posted January 13, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2006 Try to take the side excursion to Iguassu falls either before you leave Rio or during your 2 days in BA. It is wonderful. You can do much better with a private tour operator rather than HAL though (people we were with saved about $250 per person doing this). Loved the all day tour in Puerto Montt that included Petrohue Falls, Fruitila, German Museum and the lake. It was beautiful. We also did this as a private tour (sedan with driver/guide) and saved quite a bit for the 3 of us vs. all 3 of us on a bus with the ship's tour, and were able to take a different route so were never at the same stops with buses at the same time. BCHappyGal Posted January 13, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2006 If you read my review of my South American cruise Jan 3 - 31 "South America Jan 3 - 31" on this board you will see what shore excursions we did - all with private guides. If you continue to scroll down on my review you will find a list of all the private tour companies & guides we used with thier contact info. crazy4cruisn Posted January 14, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Who did you use for your tour in Puerto MOntt?
Splinter Posted January 15, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2006 I can't remember our guide's name (but he spoke excellent English) but we arranged the tour through this company. They have an office right in downtown Puerto Montt and do a lot of business both locally and for ecotourism in the region: http://www.chile-travel.com/eureka.htm

Rare xpcdoojk Posted January 16, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 16, 2006 We used GV too. They are very good and reasonably priced. If you can you gotta go to Iquasso. jc
