swanmark Posted September 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2018 Hi Guys we are trying the yacht club for the first time. Can anyone please tell us about the formal nights, How formal are they, is it black tie or just suits, looking at some photos of Splendida it loo’s like lots of men are wearing suits most of the time. Thanks
dwittwer Posted September 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2018 We were on Seaside in June and I'd say about 50/50 jackets and not. I personally wore dress pants and a button up shirt. I think the YC was actually less formal than the rest of the ship.

TrinaLC Posted September 29, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2018 Definitely not black tie or suits. Dressy cocktail for the ladies, and maybe khakis blue blazer and tie for the gents. And those are the ones dressed up. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Coochuck Posted September 29, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2018 Was on the Divina last year in the Yacht Club and took along a Sports Jacket. Will be going on the Seaside in November and will not take along a Jacket....so silly to wear a jacket in the Caribbean...I'm on vacation and will dress for comfort.:D:D
Rare missthesea Posted September 29, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2018 My husband wore a suit on formal nights, and a shirt with a collar and khakis the other nights. There were several men in suits on our sailing, but only for formal nights. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
skt4cruise Posted September 29, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2018 On all our previous cruises, formal meant just that, even some tuxes, but on Meraviglia in YC, we were surprised to see no tuxedoes or women in gowns, just suits and women in proper dresses. It was a disappointment since we dressed for “Elegant “ on the 3 nights it specified. Now we are relieved for future YC cruises we won’t take elegant clothes. So...men in shirts w/tie, with or without jacket....women in nice top and pants or skirt...or really whatever makes you comfortable. dwittwer Posted September 29, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2018 Now that I think about it I switched from shorts to pants on elegant nights but kept my short sleeve button downs untucked. It’s the Caribbean, now worries man.
CruisingFox27 Posted September 29, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 29, 2018 It often depends on the region you're sailing, on our Caribbean sailings fewer people were actually elegant. A few suits but mainly shirts and trousers for the men, cocktail or summer dress for ladies. Our most recent sailings from Dubai and around the Baltics, nearly everyone dressed elegantly, lots of suits for the men and evening or cocktail dresses for the ladies. dwittwer Posted September 30, 2018 #11 Share Posted September 30, 2018 Did they let you wear shorts in the Yacht Club restaurants? I think I wore shorts every day except the elegant nights In the YC restaurant. I’ll be back next month and am only planning to bring pants for the elegant nights so we shall see. On Meraviglia in the Mediterranean people wearing shorts had to change for dinner in the YC.
scamper Posted September 30, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 30, 2018 Maybe Europeans know how to dress for both comfort and elegance. Something that seems to be lost on some Americans. Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app
Toofarfromthesea Posted September 30, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 30, 2018 Did they let you wear shorts in the Yacht Club restaurants? On Divina a couple of weeks ago they sent my Son-in-law back to put long pants on in Le Muse. This was a Med cruise.
