This is the best and most complete review of the food I have ever read. I am retired and have had plenty of time to read posts and reviews. I only wish that I could figure a way to post this to facebook.

thank you very much! I really enjoy eating and talking food!

I'm loving this thread! We were on this cruise, too, and had some of the same dishes. I agree with your wife, that pork on the mashed sweet potatoes was awesome. :classic_biggrin: We were a little disappointed in our dinner at Cagney's also. Our truffle fries were good, but my DH felt the steak was not as good as it's been in the past.

And I thought Million Dollar Quartet was the best show I've ever seen on a cruise ship. Funny how so many people walked out early and missed the last part.

Heather

Thank you! I was surprised watching people leave without even acknowledging the performers. It's not like they needed to get their car out of the parking lot before traffic backed up.

Speaking of tiny. Cagney's has a starter called "Beef Short Rib Confit."  It's a small bit of beef, a smear of hummus and red bell pepper spread and  some little flatbreads. But OMG, it's wonderful. I had it every time we ate at Cagney's. The flavors were amazing together. It looked almost like a plate AFTER someone was done eating it was so small, but surprisingly satisfying.

Sometimes small is okay, but that nacho hing looks sad.

Haha! yes very true!- that looks like a painters palette and a bit of Skoal.

Drago's Chargrilled Oysters....how dare you bring this up.  Best ever...

Amazing stuff! We went with a group of friends last year and I talked them into going. Once we sat down and started ordering, I realized they were all too nervous to eat an oyster. I told them " you all are crazy and....... look away when I eat- its going to be disturbing".

Loving your thread!!  Sailing Breakaway 2/17/19.  Made reservation in Feb 2018 for self and adult daughter, shortly after my husband passed away, but before diagnosed with stage 3b colon cancer and stage 3 small cell renal carcinoma.

Cruising thoughts have kept my head together during chemo.  I should finish chemo mid-December.  DD and I spent time last night reading your posts and drooling over photos.

Thank you!

I got so hungry reading this!  It really created excitement for my upcoming cruise (I leave on Sunday) out of Miami!  Thank you for the amazing photos and entertaining descriptions.  I appreciate the time it took to put this thread together.  I started reading the day you were posting and found myself refreshing it over and over to see your new posts.  I just finished it today (because of time constraints) but am truly looking forward to all the wonderful foods!  I lost 10 lbs and for sure plan on gaining at least some of it back but I paid $$ for this vacation and I am going to enjoy every savory bite of it!!!  :)  Thank you again for your amazing review!!!

So sorry for everything you have been through.  I hope the rest of your treatment goes well.  Glad you can use a cruise as a pleasant distraction.

Love. Love. Love this review!! Thank you so much!! A couple questions-

1) You mentioned a discussion on the unlimited arcade package-- I am interested in your thoughts on this?

2) You mentioned having a 12yo and a 14yo. My son will be 13yo when we do this cruise...did you feel comfortable letting them do activities on the ship alone? Did they seem to remember where everything was or get lost?

Thanks for putting so much time and effort into your post!!

You are in for quite a treat- New Orleans is my favorite food destination. There is so much amazing food- I could create an entire new thread of food pictures in New Orleans.

So I don't detour too much, here is a short list of some of my favorites. By no means is the the only good food in NOLA, you will certainly find something amazing in many, many places.

Stanley- corner of Jackson Square is our favorite breakfast place. My wife loves the Bananas Foster French Toast and I love either the Eggs Stanley or Breaux Bridge Benedict.

Drago's- Located by the Harrahs Casino. I love their charbroiled Oysters.

Lorettas- counter in the French Market and has a restaurant just north of the Quarter. Her Praline Beignets and Crab Beignets are some of the best things I've ever eaten. I think she only serves the Crab ones in the restaurant.

Parkway Tavern & Bakery- a few miles north of the quarter. I love their surf n turf Po Boy.

K-Pauls- Anything here.

Mr. B's- BBQ Shrimp. It's messy but delicious.

Napoleon House- Muffuletta and a Pimm's Cup to drink.

Carousel Bar- your favorite cocktail while sitting around a rotating bar.

Cochon- Roasted Oysters were incredible. Anything here.

Peche- Anything seafood here.

GW Fins- Scalibut.

Mulate's- Fun Cajun place.

Again- there are so many amazing places and I just scratched the surface. Enjoy- its an amazing city with amazing culture, amazing architecture, amazing history, amazing food, and amazing people.

I think you've mentioned most of our favorites! Also love NOLA and for a relaxed genteel brunch, Commander's Palace.

We thought the arcade package was a great deal and totally worth it. Our kids loved it and spent a lot o time there getting their game fix. We purchased in advance for the discount.

Games that give tickets or prizes are not included.

Here are the games I remember at the arcade that were included:

Guitar Hero

Air Hockey

Pac Man Smash (hyper air hockey)

Big Game Hunter

Terminator

(another shooting game)

Big Rig Racing Game

4 person Racing

2 Person racing

2 Person racing- motorcycle

Pirate themed shooting game

Ms Pac Man/Galaga

Roller Coaster Simulator

another simulator- alien theme I think?

At O'Sheehans, it included:

Basketball Games

Pool

Darts

2 person Racing Game

Big Game hunter

Note:

Bowling at O'Sheehan's is not included- That is $6.  Deal or No Deal is not included. Skee-Ball is not included.

We did feel comfortable letting the explore and walk to places. Our 12 yr old went alone a few times. He has a really good sense of direction and he got confused a couple times early on. Nothing that made him panic- just that he thought he was FWD and was really AFT. Knowing that the fish are the carpet are swimming to the front of the ship helps. The info screens near the elevator banks are helpful in finding your way.

We also paid to use the NCL app on the ship to communicate via text with the kids. It is $10 a device. Our boys would text us inside the app to let us know where they were. It was nice piece of mind and we thought it worked well. It's not as simple as regular texting- you do have to check for messages. They do not always pop up on the main screen.

Here are some posts of drinks. I don't remember all the names or even what was in them.

We were happy with our drinks and the service. Tasted fine to us.

This was a sidecar from Cagney's. Probably can get it at the Prime Meridian Bar as well. I liked it! I had a few 🙂

Bloody Mary!

If you want it spicy, you have to spice it yourself (at the pool bar)

This bring me to the Jogging Path. Is that what that's called? Path?Track?

There is a major pinch point in front of the rock wall. The path is the only walk way in front of the rock wall and at the entrance to Margaritaville AND coming off the arcade AND going to the elevator bank. If you like to run, go early because a lot of people are walking through that area mid morning.
