Rare vacationlover_mn Posted November 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2018 So, I have a huge, irrational fear of sharks. It has gotten worse over the years, and I can no longer snorkel... I would love to try snorkeling again at Pearl island... has anyone ever seen any kind of shark near there?
scubagirrl Posted November 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2018 Unfortunately, there was a shark attack last year at Athol Island... another small island in the area.. Sharks are not normally seen around this area, but they do exist.

DKane Posted December 3, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Speaking of sharks, when we were at Great Stirrup Cay last year, we met a lifeguard who was changing shifts with another one. Their duty was to spot sharks while they were sitting on top of the rocks.

I would think that the excursions that feature feeding and wrangling sharks would make sharks more likely to approach humans thinking that humans=food and thus make swimming more dangerous in those areas. I just find it ironic that people would go on an excursion that features feeding and swimming with sharks but back home at their favorite beach they run/swim frantically to shore at the mere suggestion that there might be a shark in the water😄 Edited December 11, 2018 by blueridgemama

In my years of cruising, I have never heard of an excursion like this "feeding and wrangling sharks."

There are several excursions in Nassau alone that feature feeding and swimming with sharks

I don't think blueridgemama was talking specifically about Norwegian excursions, just that excursions that feed and wrangle sharks make them more likely to approach humans.
