Manhattan Cruise Terminal to LGA

We have never been to NYC before and will be on NCL Escape flying in and out of LGA. We are looking at return flights but are not sure how much time to allow to secure a taxi and then travel from the Manhattan terminal to LGA.  Our flight departure date is on Sunday July 28th.  All suggestions will be appreciated.  Thanks.

Past history & arrival time really doesn't count.  If you itinerary is listed as a 8 am arrival, ship can dock early at 6:30 or 7:00, cleared & Express self-walkoff called within 30 minutes, if you are at the head of the long line(s) ... assuming CBP is well staffed downstairs inside the cruise terminal building (no forms to filled out for those with nothing to declare.)  Sometimes, it's much earlier than that.  Likewise, sometimes just in time but also, been badly late.

I recommend looking at and booking flights out of LGA after 1 PM - some would say 12 noon worked for them (luckily ... good for the poster) - especially if you have a non-stop and not trying to make another connection at another airport/hub to get to you final destination/home airport ... with limited flight options & price variations.  Airport is in the middle of a multi-year, major redevelopment & re-construction and new facilities, roadways & changes taking place (thru 2020 & beyond ... not including the proposed/approved plan for an AirTrain connection) ... some of the expanded/new gates should be online by then.  Getting to LGA usually isn't a big deal - ride is 30 to 45 minutes on an average & quiet Sunday morning, but  ... yellow taxis are plentiful & fare is metered to LGA, flat rate to JFK - plus applicable toll.  Taxi fare, toll & tips should run around $50 or so, car services are comparable vs. NCL (currently) charging $35 p/p one-way to LGA for the Escape & Gem via shared bus transfer (1 PM or later only.)

Enjoy NYC as you are visiting for the first time, enjoy the last morning onboard instead of rushing to disembark the ship ... the new terminal buildings at LGA are going to a lot visitors-friendly & free WiFi enabled.

I would agree not before 1pm.  What is in your favor is that it is a Sunday in the summer. Last summer we were on NCL Gem arriving in NYC.  Even with self disembark it was close to 9am before we were off the boat. Taxis know that the ship is arriving and there is a queue.  Even on a Sunday predicting how long to get crosstown is difficult.  Also, there could be construction in Queens.  It would not take much to keep you from getting to LGA before 11.
