elycelynne Posted January 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2019 (edited) I was just curious if anyone knew if and how Volcanoes National Park was affected by the shutdown. Any reports? Edited January 5, 2019 by elycelynne
CruiserBruce Posted January 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2019 It may be partially closed, but as a main road goes right through it, it can't be fully closed. A quick Google search finds: https://www.nps.gov/havo/index.htm
seattle_sarah Posted January 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2019 We were just there on Pride of America last week. It was open. Well, most of it is closed because of the eruption back in April. No lava is flowing anywhere in the park. There are a few trails that are closed because of the shutdown. There were only 3-4 trails open at all right now. The visitors center was open. They had a skeleton crew working there. The bathrooms at the visitors center were open and clean. There was a sign by a trash can asking visitors to pack out their trash - no trash collection. My recommendation is to go on a tour. Most the people were on tours - which probably helped a lot. I heard a rumor there were 3 rangers in the whole park. There were volunteers working. If you want help, it is better to have a guide there.
