Kenswing Posted January 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2019 (edited) Does Australia and New Zealand have the equivalent of our 911 system? Any advice on who to call, what to do if you should need emergency services. Whether it's medical, fire or police? Thanks. possum52 Posted January 15, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2019 In Australia the emergency number is 000. Hopefully you won't need it. Leigh
GUT2407 Posted January 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2019 I sure hope you don’t need them, but you’ve got both numbers now.

We were in Ireland a couple of years ago and witnessed an elderly lady fall and strike her head on the ground. All we could do was call out for help and knock on doors until someone called an ambulance. Ever since that trip I make sure I know how to get help. buchhalm Posted January 17, 2019 #9 Share Posted January 17, 2019 So many people in Australia are used to hear "somebody call 911" from American TV, that calls made to 911 in Australia will ALSO be directed to 000 emergency services!. This info from the trainers that do First Aid training to our staff. And why is it (question for you Americans) that it is ALWAYS "SOMEBODY call 911!!!" ?? Nobody EVER picks up the phone and calls themselves!

I didn't even think of fixed lines. Many Mobile (Cell) phone companies with AUSTRALIAN numbers do redirect 911 to 000, but how far this would work with an overseas number, I don't know. Morale of the story, remember 000 in Oz and store it in your phone.
