So now that they are not letting you use the non refundable in the casino, and since they use the non refundable OBC first, I wonder if this means that we can't charge to our account in the casino until the non refundable is used up when you have both non refundable and refundable OBC?

You can charge the casino to your room before all the OBC is used up.  Their computer system now can keep better track.  However, be aware what shows on the navigator app will show the casino charges going against the OBC.  This gives you a false picture.

that's what I mean.  I buy additional OBC and some of it is for casino usage.

I have far more refundable OBC than non refundable 😉

I guess I will take cash for the casino until I see that my non refundable is gone 😞  I don't want casino usage charged to my credit card.  Thanks 🙂

I would doubt that, the accounting software should be flexible enough to classify what kind of charge you are making and deduct it from the proper OBC bucket. Its all just a running total anyway until the end of the cruise. After checking our account on the first Sea Day (to insure all OBC is properly credited), I'll continue to check it out every 4-5 days just to insure nothing unusual shows up and to keep an idea of the amount of OBC left. Since we have beverage cards and HSC already paid for the next cruise, I'm going to have to be creative use up all the OBC we do have. Well there is always Bingo and Pinnacle dinners, shore excursions are not going to help much, as we've got private tours for pretty much all the ports.

I'd say this is a good question for Ship Services (or the front desk).

I found myself with nearly $300 of credit on my last cruise night, that included charging $200 at the casino the day before, so I purchased a $400 GoPro at the Photo Gallery.  HAL Accounting billed my credit card $100.🙂  YMMV

I hope you are right.

That's a good idea.  I'll ask Ship's Services - I have to call them anyways for something else so I'll kill two birds with one stone 😉

Thats not a problem for them 0 I know that from my experience last year on the Rotterdam where I ended up losing a few dollars in OBC the last night when they checked everything.  No big deal, but it told me that they can check.

thanks Dave so as long as they take it from my refundable, I'll be good.  Much appreciated.

The non refundable will be used up quickly.  I have no worries there 😉

Going out with a bang on our Swan Song 😉

  • 1 month later...

I had an interesting situation at the end of my recent Nieuw Amsterdam cruise.

I had both refundable and non refundable credit.

On the last night of the cruise I cleared my account as usual. No problems.

The next morning I had a note under my door directing me to see the front desk about my account. The first thing I did was look at my account on line and a new line was added "Promo Credits" with a charge of $10.12. Here is the situation. I spent more than my non refundable credit, but due to refunds (mainly for the internet being down for 2 days) and lower than normal spending I had a refund that exceeded my refundable credit. The night auditor came out and insisted he couldn't refund more than my refundable credit. I pointed out that I had spent more than my non refundable credit, and that if he didn't refund the full amount then I wouldn't be getting the full credit for the internet being out. He went to the back and one of the Guest Services people came out and said that it was taken care of and provided me a copy of the account zeroed out.
