Thinking about going to Iceland. Looked and excursions from Princess are very expensive.  Has any booked privates excursions through GeoIceland, Tripadvisor ,  Viator or anyone else.   Good  or bad experiences.   Excursions that are a must! Thanks!

Son rented cars and drove for less than half what we paid.  We just took the ship tour in both Akureyri and Reykjavik.  Tours are about 9 hours long.  Biggest problem with ship tour is you spend quite a bit of time loading and unloading the bus.  We had something like 26 buses doing the tour and the drivers drove from the first port and met us at the second.

Reykjavik tour got to the water tower five minutes before we were due back onboard but tour guide said no problem, just run up, take pictures and come back.  Long hike since the elevator only holds about 6 people.  Of course we were in the first bus and had the captain's wife with us so we not going to be left.  Took an hour and a half for the rest of the buses to dribble in.

Try to go either to the falls or the Blue Lagoon.  Great places to spend a few hours.

Spent a couple of days in Iceland as part of the free stopover perk from Icelandic Air.  We did the Golden Triangle tour (all day tour, which included the waterfall) and also went to the Blue Lagoon.  If you do go to the Blue Lagoon make your reservations early on, as there are only so many buses that go there.  My daughter also did a stop over in Iceland as part of her honeymoon, and could not get a Blue Lagoon entrance time until later in the day.  I would recommend that earlier in the day is better, and if possible, select the premium package that includes a robe, flip flops, towel and lunch in the on-site restaurant.  It was very nice!

Be forewarned that a lot of Europeans will go to the Blue Lagoon as part of a party group (birthdays, bachelor/bachelorette parties), and that is why I liked being there earlier (luckily the lagoon is huge so you can move away from loud people).

We've been to Iceland twice, stopping at Akureyri and Reykjavik both times.  Did tours arranged by myself or others on our Roll Calls with varying itineraries.  The Golden Triangle tour (from Reykjavik) mentioned above is a must IMHO; in addition to visiting the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, we also stopped at Thingvellir National Park (where you can straddle two continents--Europe/North America and is also the site of an important Viking meeting in 930 AD).  We've also done a tour along the southern coast, which was interesting and scenic, but not as good as the GT.
