14 day Ft Lauerdale cruise question

On a 14 day cruise out of Ft Lauderdale that goes out for 7 days then back to Ft L then out again for 7 days to different ports,

do you have to get off the ship and reboard at Ft L?

Both times (one with a couple of hundred other passengers; the other with over 800!) we did a B2B in Fort Lauderdale we all exited as a group to the luggage pickup area (everyone with luggage had already disembarked) then walked back on the ship but I have heard that others have met in the Princess Theater and did not need to disembark the ship.   You also have the option to disembark with the other passengers if you plan to do some shopping or sight-seeing.  You'll be given an in-transit pass in order to re-embark.

You will receive instructions toward the end of the cruise as to turnaround day in Ft Lauderdale.

We have done a few B2B out of PE and always had to exit the ship, go through immigration and then wait to get back on the ship with other elite

If you choose to stay onboard, you will be stuck in the theater listening to announcements until the last clueless in-transit passengers finally realize that they must show up. After that, there will be a long snaking line through immigration. Any fond memories of the previous cruise will be temporarily erased and you will begin the new cruise feeling dehumanized.

 

I find it far preferable to leave and reboard. For those with no mobility issues, Fort Lauderdale is ideal for walking, especially along the beach. For others, the nearest Starbucks is a very short taxi ride away.

On our last cruise in 2017, we were only required to report to the theatre at 9:30 with our passports & cruise cards.  After all debarking personnel left, they brought immigration officials onboard and we were scanned off the ship in the theatre walked out past immigration and were scanned back on board as we left. 

 

It all took about an hour (depending on the stubborn ones who refuse to leave from first cruise) and was very painless.

 

By the way, if you need to go to the theatre, sit on the far left side as far forward as possible.
