Westaussie Posted January 20, 2007 #276 Share Posted January 20, 2007 Aquarius is replacing the casino ship Wasa Queen and probably taking over its itinerary ie year round short getaway cruises. Pity. Hope it does one or two longer cruises
Shiraz49 Posted January 21, 2007 #277 Share Posted January 21, 2007 Thanks for the proposed deckplans ... obviously a very quick refit with not too much change, renamed restaurants/bars etc but appears the casiono may be larger and I assume 'Genting Club' may be for members only or high rollers(???). The real shame is the lack of longer asian destination cruises, had hoped to revisit the 'Wind' in her new livery in 2008. Not to worry some of the other 'Superstar' intineries of longer duration also look appealing ..... will keep watching with interest.
deck 9 001 Posted January 22, 2007 #278 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Hi Shiraz49, I just did a comparison of the Norwegian Wind deck plans to the proposed refit into SuperStar Aquarius, so when I cruise this ship later this year, I will know what to expect. I noticed some significant changes and reconfiguring of public rooms. While all is not to my liking, I thought I would post what I have found for you and other past Norwegian Wind passengers. The original Wind rooms I have highlighted bold. Changes: Deck 12---The lovely Observation lounge has been reconfigured into a Karaoke Lounge with private rooms. One of the gyms is now a reflexology room. Oceana BBQ has been added midships. The Snack Counter aft has been changed to Bar & Cigar Lounge. Sports Bar and Grill is now the Genting Club, which is indeed for VIP members. Deck 11---The midship swimming pool and Topsiders, along with the Cafe and Pizzeria have been removed! In their place now is an enclosed room called the Admiral Club, which will be a VIP games of chance room. The Sports Equipment Room and Conference Rooms have now been replaced with Port's O' Call, Child Care Center and Photo Gallery. The Sun Terrace is now Spices Restaurant. Deck 10---The Monte Carlo Casino, now called Star Club, has been greatly enlarged, resulting in the loss of Dazzles Disco, Lucky's Bar, six Shops and The Galleria. Deck 9---The Four Seasons Restaurant is now the Mariners Buffet. Rendezvous Bar and Le Bistro have now been reconfigured into Lagoon Bar and Blue Lagoon, which is a 24 hour eatery. The Internet Cafe is now the Activities Center. The Library, Coffee Bar and Card Room are gone and have been replaced by the Aquarius Lounge. The Terrace has been renamed Dynasty Restaurant. Luckily the small aft swimming pool is still there! Deck 8--- This deck is untouched. Deck 7--- 21 forward passenger cabins have now been given over to staff. The Dive-In/Shorex Desk is now partly the Star VIP88 desk. Deck 6--- 31 forward cabins have been given over to staff. Deck 5--- 26 forward cabins and 12 aft cabins have been given over to staff. Deck 4--- remains untouched. As I said above, many changes that will be made I am not happy with, but I am sure these changes will fit the intended Hong Kong market. I am looking forward to taking a cruise aboard SuperStar Aquarius during this summer. Will let all of you know my impressions later on when I return. Westaussie Posted January 22, 2007 #279 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Hi Mike I think it would break my heart to sail on her now - expecially the Observation Lounge gone which was a favourite place! Look forward to what you have to say after you have sailed. Vera
deck 9 001 Posted January 22, 2007 #280 Share Posted January 22, 2007 I hear ya Vera! I too love Observation Lounges onboard ships. It is a room which harkens back to the days of the Liners. I am posting the Deck 12 plan. It is very difficult to tell if those beautiful windows with sweeping views will still be used, or if they will all be covered over. If they are covered, it would be a great pity. Perhaps the windows in the center of the room will be left in place. Regards, Mike
BJC Posted January 23, 2007 #281 Share Posted January 23, 2007 Hi Tom, If you are looking for a longer cruise what about the Gemini Cruise, Singapore to HK and Return, that we are doing the return cruise section. From memory the full cruise is 21 nights, and our section is 11, and you get to do a full circuit of the South China Sea. Don’t know when you had planned to sail but there are 3 of these cruises in ’07, and I know there are still some cabins left on our cruise which is the first of the 3, in late May. Anyway we are certainly looking forward to our part of the cruise only time (and money) precludes us form the full cruise!;) Regards, Bruce PS. My first “Cruise” was as a 2 year old in 51, Perth to Southampton, on the P&O Himalaya, and the second was on the Orsorva back to Aus in ’56.:)
deck 9 001 Posted January 24, 2007 #282 Share Posted January 24, 2007 Cynicor (Jon) asked about this cocktail served onboard SuperStar Gemini. It is a great drink and powerful! The below recipe is for "bulk" amount when it is made as "Cocktail of the Day" aboard the ship. With a little tweaking you can adjust the amounts for individual drinks. But why bother, when you can have a container on hand and enjoy this great drink anytime:) But the best way to enjoy it is of course, when you are cruising aboard the Gemini. "WENG-WENG Cocktail" Gin 10 oz Vodka 10 oz Rum 10 oz Tequila 10 oz Brandy 10 oz Grenadine 10 oz Orange Juice 30 oz Pineapple Juice 30 oz Mix all the above together. Store in container in fridge. Serve over ice in a glass of your choice. (I prefer tall glass) The above recipe is courtesy of the SuperStar Gemini. Cheers, Mike
deck 9 001 Posted January 27, 2007 #283 Share Posted January 27, 2007 Hi Vera and everyone, Star Cruises has just published the itineraries and sailing dates for the SuperStar Aquarius sailing ex-Hong Kong. The ship will start service in June. Sailings are mainly one night getaway cruises, but there are also 3D/2N destination cruises which sail twice monthly. Westaussie Posted January 29, 2007 #287 Share Posted January 29, 2007 Hi Cruisie-gal Welcome to the boards there's so much info here as you delve deeper into different topics! We love the Gemini too, it's been a few years since we sailed on her but thinking of the Hong Kong to Singapore cruise this year. Next favorite cruiseline is NCL (owned by Star Cruises) and we've had some lovely trips to Hawaii, Alaska and Baltic countries on their ships. deck 9 001 Posted January 30, 2007 #292 Share Posted January 30, 2007 Hi crusie-gal, at the moment, SuperStar Aquarius will only have 3 day/2 night cruises ex-Hong Kong. There are no longer cruises planned. Although these cruises are not long, if you are already in Hong Kong or nearby, these cruises to Xiamen and Haikou are very nice and a great way to relax for a few days and see some interesting ports. Crusie-gal Posted January 30, 2007 #293 Share Posted January 30, 2007 hi Mike thanks for your reply well me and my family would like to go shopping in hong kong so maybe the short cruise would just be nice. Well i guess i'll ask them and see. Whats hong kong like for shopping???? thanks crusie-gal P.S do you know how to change the users name
Westaussie Posted January 30, 2007 #294 Share Posted January 30, 2007 Hi Crusie-gal The ship we went on was NCL Wind which will be the SS Aquarius out of Hong Kong. We loved the ship and the cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. I was hoping it would do longer cruises from HK to Vietnam and across to Kota Kinabalu etc. I like cruises that are around 10 days! We are going on the Pacific Princess in February, Sydney to Vanuatu, etc. Sorry can't help you re editing your user name. Try a search in the help section or email CC. deck 9 001 Posted January 30, 2007 #295 Share Posted January 30, 2007 Hi crusie-gal, thanks for your reply You are welcome. well me and my family would like to go shopping in hong kong so maybe the short cruise would just be nice. Well i guess i'll ask them and see. Like I said, if you are already in HK, sure, give Aquarius a try. It is a great get-away vacation. Whats hong kong like for shopping???? I go to HK all the time. As a matter of fact I just got back a couple days ago. HK is a "shoppers paradise," but alas, prices are no longer that great, in my opinion. Yes, you can probably find whatever you are looking for in HK, but the prices are not like they were "in the good ole' days." There are still bargains to be had, but you have to really look around. I do like going to Temple Street Night Market. Lot's of stuff and you can really bargain with the vendors. P.S do you know how to change the users name I don't think your user name can be changed. If you really want to change it, you will have to register again with your new name. Hope I have helped a little. Regards, Mike
Crusie-gal Posted January 30, 2007 #296 Share Posted January 30, 2007 Hi westaussie thank you for your reply, my family and i are think of maybe going on the pride of aloha or pride of hawaii. yeh thats what i wanted was the Aquarius to do longer cruises because you just can get to settled in 3 days and by then you only just know your way around the boat, considering it is alot bigger than the gemini where you could just know where to go with out knowing it.. oh the princess crusie sounds so nice and they have great ships, what island and that will you be stopping at??? because i went on the pacific sky's (now the sky wonder) in 2004 around the south pacific. soon to hear from you soon. crusie-gal dont worry about the name i'll have to live with it :p but thanks for trying to help
Crusie-gal Posted January 30, 2007 #297 Share Posted January 30, 2007 hi mike well i'll let my family know about the information that you have given to me about the aquarius and shoppng in hong kong and i guess we will decide from there on the star cruises website where super star aquarius itineries are it says something about a 5 night cruise do you know anything about it??? thanks for helping me and the informaion as for the user name i guess i'll just keeop it but thanks crusie-gal
deck 9 001 Posted January 30, 2007 #298 Share Posted January 30, 2007 cruisie-gal Hi, The 5 night cruise you are talking about is a "relocation cruise" when the Aquarius leaves Singapore enroute to Hong Kong to begin her permanent cruises from Hong Kong. It is a one time only cruise. This is what you saw on Star Cruises website: The relocation cruise will call at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Sanya, China on 19 and 21 June respectively before arriving in Hong Kong on 22 June where she will commence daily international waters cruises. Her arrival also coincides with the 10 th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Wish I could do this cruise, but the dates do not fit my schedule. deck 9 001 Posted January 31, 2007 #300 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Hi Bruce, Good idea! If there are any more questions regarding SSA perhaps I will start a thread. I really never thought that there would be much interest in this ship and itineraries, but it's nice that there is. Hope everything is going well with you.
